Recent ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that the ABC soap either gave watchers a major clue about the fate of Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) or GH production made a major mistake. Nikolas’ tattoos changed noticeably after his faked death at Wyndemere and the soap made sure to put the different arm ink on prominent display.
This ould be a clue rather than a mistake because co-writers Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman like to drop hints about future storylines. This could be the case with the tattoos. For long-time GH watchers, you’ll know that Nikolas has a large cross-shaped tattoo of two nails on his right bicep. It’s always on display when he’s shirtless and he’s had it for years.
On his left arm, Nikolas has a Native American looking piece of ornate shoulder art. GH fans are accustomed to seeing this ink. When the show subbed in Nick Stabile as Nikolas Cassadine while Tyler Christopher was on break, it would have been easy enough to replicate the cross tattoo on his right shoulder, but they did not.
Actor Nick Stabile has two pieces of shoulder art – major ink on both arms. Yet still the show elected to show him with his shirt off and his right arm tattoo boldly on display when Nikolas spent the night in the shed with Ava Jerome (Maura West) while on the run from Huxley Lynch (Trent Dawson). Yet the tattoo could easily have been hidden.
They could have had Nick Stabile do the scene with his shirt on but unbuttoned if they wanted to show off his physique. Alternately, they could have used stage makeup to cover Nick Stabile’s tattoo and apply a replica of Tyler Christopher’s right arm cross tattoo. Yet General Hospital did neither. It could be that they were leaving a clue that explains a lot about Nikolas.
General Hospital spoilers have long teased that Nikolas is not the same man he once was. Laura Spencer (Genie Francis), Sam Morgan (Kelly Monaco), and Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) all commented on how different Nikolas has been over the past year. It seems like there might be a Nikolas doppelganger that was swapped in to replace the real, kind Nikolas a little more than a year ago.
So why show us the different ink now? That’s simple to explain in the story. The substitute Nikolas could have been covering up his own tattoos and using a fake to fool people who saw him shirtless into thinking he was the real Nikolas. Then when he had enough of Port Charles and decided to leave town, he just dropped the pretense and quit covering his own ink.
The bottom line is that GH producers either very deliberately showed GH viewers a tattoo that doesn’t match the ink we associate with Nikolas Cassadine – or they made a terrible, sloppy continuity mistake when shooting the show. It seems that it’s more likely a hint at the twin twist that would explain why Nikolas hasn’t been himself lately.
