Halsey discusses her miscarriage and the subsequent shocking manner in which she dealt with it. Singer-songwriter Halsey has revealed that she became pregnant before the release of her 2015 hit album Badlands. The discovery had her frantic and scared over the future of her rising career in music, Halsey shared in an interview with Rolling Stone.
“What happens? Do I lose my record deal? Do I lose everything? Or do I keep [the pregnancy]? What are the fans going to think? What are the moms going to think? What is the Midwest going to think? What’s f—ing everyone going to think?”
Sadly, Halsey (whose real name is Ashley Frangipane) miscarried before she could decide what to do about her surprise pregnancy. She miscarried in a hotel room hours before an important performance for Vevo LIFT that would help launch her career.
“I’m like, ‘I have to cancel this show! And everyone’s kind of like, ‘Well, it’s Vevo LIFT, and it’s 3 million impressions, so …’ No one knew what to do.”
Devastated over her loss and in physical pain, Halsey opted to take two Percocet, put on an adult diaper and hit the stage to perform in the middle of such a tragic event. Speaking about a separate subject entirely, the singer says she is just a “fucked-up stoner kid who made it.”
Her career took off way before she even signed with a label, an overnight sensation after she released a song to SoundCloud. “It’s a good thing I’m a crazy bitch, because I don’t think I’d be able to handle it if I wasn’t, you know?”
Maybe that’s why Halsey decided to keep moving forward and ignore the heartbreak. It’s clear that Halsey herself is just as unique as her rise up the musical ladder.
“It’s the angriest performance that I’ve ever done in my life,” she said. “That was the moment of my life where I thought to myself, ‘I don’t feel like a f—ing human being anymore.'”
The 21-year old blames her busy schedule for the miscarriage. The singer has plans for children in the future and by the sounds of it, she would easily drop her successful music career and all her fame to become a mother.
“I want to be a mom more than I want to be a pop star,” Halsey said. Adding, “More than I want to be anything in the world.”
Halsey is scheduled to make her next performance at Lollapalooza on Sunday, August 31.
