Laurel is the reasonable one. She’s the one that tries to protect the others, especially when they’ve screwed up or have thought about screwing up, and so Laurel’s not one to judge. She just cleans up the mess they left behind and therefore by this point it’s fairly obvious that she can keep a secret.
However, Annalise refused to talk about Wes’s mother and she somehow found a way to both deny as well confirm that there had been something wrong with Rose’s autopsy. Laurel had pretty much figured out that there had been certain things that hadn’t gotten written up in Rose’s file, but she needed answers. Like why did the detective on the case believe Wes could have killed Rose and if it wasn’t him then who else could it have been?
And that’s the part that Annalise didn’t want to talk about. She said the detective had gotten it wrong because he had taken cursory look at the crime scene and had written down the easiest thing he could up with. Yet Laurel had wanted Annalise to confirm something, or anything for that matter. So that Ohio stopped being such a huge mystery.
Which Laurel said Wes deserved seeing as his mother’s suicide had shaped a large portion of his life. Though Annalise had a different idea. She said if Wes really wanted the answers then he had to come see her in person to demand them.
Apparently his hiding out was doing no one any favors, but Wes hadn’t gone back to hiding in his room again. He was actually still looking into his mother’s case because he surmised that she was murdered and so he thought he could find her killer. And he was hoping to do without Annalise’s input.
But then Laurel tracked him down. She had wanted to tell him about Phillip being back and how they were all in danger yet Wes wanted to stay behind in order to focus on Rose’s case. So that’s when Laurel told him that she had talked to Annalise and that Annalise was willing to give him answers if he ever came by the Keating House again.
And, well, that had set off Wes. He then told Laurel that she betrayed him by dragging Annalise into his investigation and he didn’t believe her when she had tried to tell him that Annalise shouldn’t be blamed for what happened to his mother. Therefore, he kicked her out of his place and literally ignored everything she said just so he could continue working.
And that meant he stayed where Phillip could find him. However, his friends had been smarter about the serial killer out on the loose. They had realized that Asher’s place was the one building that Phillip hadn’t followed anyone to so they all converged there for that. What with Connor dragging Oliver there as well.
But eventually Wes did let go of his stubbornness. He had tried to remember critical details from the past yet he had been kid at the time and only seen what the adults wanted him to see. So he hadn’t known that his mother had been threatened with deportation if she didn’t testify in Annalise’s case and he hadn’t even remembered Eve. Who had direct contact with both Wes and his mother all those years ago.
So ultimately Wes had to suck it up and he had gone over to Annalise’s, but she hadn’t been there. Annalise had stayed with Nate at his place as her own safety precaution. And without anyone in the house, Wes had gone snooping about hoping to find whatever Annalise had on his mother.
Though the one thing she had out in the open happened to be the piece of paper that stated Wes had been a suspect in his mother’s homicide. Therefore, Wes had remembered something and he had gone back to the therapist that had tried to help him because he wanted to know if he could have suppressed memories. And that they were coming back to him now because he had read that report.
Only the therapist had told him he could be creating memories. False ones in order to justify what he read.
Yet Annalise knew the truth. She knew that Rose had again promised to testify only to later make a run for it and Annalise knew that Christophe had gotten away from his mother before they could leave town. So Rose had returned to her apartment to find her son and Annalise had met up with her there where she then told Rose that she couldn’t leave town because her employer was never going to allow it.
And so Rose sought to protect her son by stabbing herself. She apparently had some kind of history with Mr. Mahoney (Charles’s father and the man that was actually paying Annalise’s bill) and she didn’t want that man to be anywhere near her son. So it was Rose that had stabbed herself and Wes had gotten blamed because of what happened next.
He had returned to the apartment, moments after it had happened, to find his mother choking on her own blood and so the confused kid had thought he could help her by taking the knife out of her throat. Which only caused her to bleed out even faster. And so that’s when he dissociated himself from what was happening.
Wes had merely wanted to forget what he had seen and that had made detectives weary of him. But thankfully Annalise had known the truth seeing as Rose had stabbed herself in front of Annalise. So she had called Eve in to represent Wes as his lawyer and when Wes finally noticed Eve’s name on the files – he had gone to her apartment building to ask her about his mother.
Though, in a strange twist of events, Annalise had gone over to his place the same time he had gone over to Eve’s. So she had let herself into his apartment because she thought he was trying to ignore her and unfortunately that’s where she finally ran into Phillip. The same Phillip that may have killed his uncle/father and aunt/stepmother.
And the Phillip that Annalise thought she had gotten the upper hand on seeing as she struck an immunity deal for her people in exchange for handing Connor’s laptop to the ADA.
But what’s immunity if Phillip actually ends up killing her?
THE END!
