Ian Somerhalder’s career and subsequently his net worth might very well be done and dusted after ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 ends. In fact, critics can’t help but wonder if Ian Somerhalder’s net worth could be in danger as the actor might have a hard time finding work after the popular CW series bows out for good.
Ian Somerhalder has been playing Damon Salvatore in The CW’s supernatural drama ‘The Vampire Diaries’ for almost a decade now. Even though the actor managed to star in a few supporting roles in ‘The Young Americans,’ CSI; Crime Scene Investigation,’ ‘Smallville,’ ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,’ and ‘Lost,’ Ian Somerhalder became a household name thanks to his popularity in the highly-rated and long-running vampire series.
At 37, Ian Somerhalder surely has plenty of years ahead of him to carve out a name for himself in the movie industry, but unfortunately many critics think the actor might end up retiring from acting for good because of his inability to distance himself from his Damon Salvatore role.
After all, Ian Somerhalder isn’t the only television star who has failed to make a transition from the small screen to the big screen. Many sitcom actors like Jennifer Aniston and the rest of the cast of the long-running NBC comedy ‘Friends’ are still struggling to be taken seriously in Hollywood, even though it’s been well over a decade since their show last aired.
With the exception of John Krasinski, his co-stars from ‘The Office’ have also failed to impress big budget movie producers, while there’s also speculation that the same fate might follow Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and the rest of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ cast.
Plus, aside from ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ Ian Somerhalder is only known for his off-screen romances with actresses Nina Dobrev and Nikki Reed.
And while Ian Somerhalder has tried to make his big break by attaching his name to projects such as ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ and ‘Man of Steel,’ those leading male roles went to Jamie Dornan and Henry Cavill. Surely, Ian Somerhalder could use his star power and his heartthrob good looks to land a role in a romantic comedy, but if he hasn’t done that so far, there’s little chance he’ll do it once ‘The Vampire Diaries’ end.
