The husband of Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, Mark Burton, has filed a bombshell wrongful death lawsuit, claiming that the actor obtained and distributed illegal pills at the time of her death.
Cathriona’s estranged husband Mark Burton claims that the actor gave her a fatal cocktail of prescription drugs that he bought under the alias of ‘Arthur King.’ What’s more, he supposedly tried to cover up her death as a suicide.
Several reports indicate that Cathriona White reportedly had a long history of depression. The makeup artists died in September of 2015 in what many believed to be a suicide attempt at the time. Two friends found her dead after checking up on her in her Sherman Oaks, Calif. apartment. Her alleged suicide happed just two days after her second break up with Jim Carrey.
The ‘Dumb and Dumber,’ actor, who dated the Irish-born makeup artist on-again and off-again from 2012, was clearly devastated about her death. Jim broke down in tears when he was photographed carrying Cathriona’s coffin as one of the pallbearers during her ceremony. Yet, Cathriona White’s estranged husband still thinks the actor should be held responsible for the tragedy.
Mark Burton said in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles court this week, “This is a case about Jim Carrey using his immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive and, in this case, deadly, controlled substances,” adding that the actor obtained “these drugs illegally and under a bogus name and then gave the drugs to White, despite the fact that he knew full well that Ms. White (a) was ill equipped to ingest and manage highly additive [sic] prescription drugs outside the care of a licensed physician; (b) was prone to depression; and (c) had previously attempted to take her own life.”
The coroner found Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet in her system, and “all came from there pill bottles found near her body bearing the name ‘Arthur King,’” the lawsuit states. “Carrey wrongfully and illegally obtained these drugs in clear violation of California law.”
Strangely though, Cathriona’s ex-husband doesn’t specify if he in fact reached out to help his wife before her death, despite knowing about her depression. So far a rep for actor has not made any comments about the lawsuit. Tell us CDL readers, what do you think? Did Jim Carrey play a role in his girlfriend’s suicide? Is Mark Burton simply looking for a big payday here?
