Katy Perry Releases Single ‘Rise’ For 2016 Summer Olympics – Gets Publicity Boost From Crazy Calvin Harris & Taylor Swift Feud?

“Rise,” Katy Perry’s first song since 2013, was released on July 14 and will be featured at NBC’s coverage of Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The 31-year-old singer of “Firework” fame revealed that she has been pulling all-nighters at the studio, finishing songs for her new album. However, this one she couldn’t wait to release. The song “Rise,” she says, has been developing inside of her for many years and this seemed like the right time to release the song, rather than wait for the album to finish.

She said in a video message that aired on The Today Show, “I was inspired to finish it now rather than save it for the album because of the overall mood of the world today,” she said. “Now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite. I know that together we can rise above the fear — in our country, and around the world,” reported Us Weekly.

The fans will be able to download the music video from iTunes, featuring video footage of Olympic trials and athletes such as Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin and Gabby Douglas. Today also reported that this video clip will open at 20,000 movie theatres just ahead of the upcoming Olympics Opening Ceremony on August 5.

Meanwhile, just when Katy Perry was about to release her new single, a golden publicity opportunity presented itself from the most unlikely source. Perry would never have contemplated that she would get engulfed in an ongoing vendetta among Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, and Tom Hiddleston.

There has been a longtime feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift about some background dancers that Perry stole from Swift for one of her tours in 2014. This disagreement was reignited by Taylor’s ex-boyfriend, Calvin Harris, when he tweeted, “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.

Katy took a subtle dig at her longtime foe with first a Hillary Clinton GIF and then a simple tweet, “Time, the ultimate truth teller.”

After fanning the longstanding disagreement between the two stars, Calvin also took a dig at Taylor Swift’s current beau, Tom Hiddleston. He said, “I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do.”

Katy Perry has held her peace so far about the “Bad Blood” controversy, but Mirror reports that she will use MTV Video Music Awards to share her side of the story. Katy has been preparing for her musical comeback and this appears to be a great opportunity to put herself back on top.
