Miss Cleo has passed away at the age of 53. It’s a sad day for fans of the 1990s fortune teller. Miss Cleo rose to fame in the 90s when her commercials became a cult classic. The famed fortune teller, whose real name was Youree Harris, hailed from Jamaica and became a household name with her “CALL ME NOW!” commercials. Miss Cleo put phone psychics on the map. In more recent years, Miss Cleo also did some voice-over jobs, and you may have recognized her on the videogame “Grand Theft Auto.”
According to a report from TMZ, Miss Cleo was suffering from advanced colon cancer. The cancer got the best of her and it spread to her liver and lungs and was untreatable. The psychic had been in and out of the hospital’ however, last week she was discharged to hospice care.
Miss Cleo’s rep released an official statement confirming that Miss Cleo had indeed passed away on Tuesday, July 26 in Palm Beach, California. According to the celebrity’s rep, in her final days the famed psychic was a “pillar of strength” and when she took her last breath she was surrounded by her close family and friends, and everyone she loved.
It’s definitely a sad day, and our hearts go out to Miss Cleo, her friends and family, and all of the people that she touched over the years. Whether or not you believe in fortune tellers and psychics, you have to admit that Miss Cleo was quite the character, always full of life and excitement, and she was truly an important piece of pop-culture history.
