‘Preacher’ spoilers for season 1 episode 2 ‘See’ reveal the dark and twisty humor will ramp up for the AMC comic-based gore fest. We’ll meet a villainous businessman and learn more about the “alien” entity Genesis that has merged with Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper).
Jesse, Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun),b and Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) will team up to face off with the latest troublemaker to hit the sleepy town of Annville, Texas. We’ll also find out more about the two men that have been chasing the Genesis possession events.
You’ll recall the pair were in Africa, then at the Satanic church, and also, no doubt, at the explosive Scientology session where, according to a newscast shown in the background of the local Annville watering hole, Tom Cruise exploded in a hail of gore.
The two men will be revealed as Fiore (Tom Brooke) and DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef) and are Adelphi angels assigned to keep watch over Genesis, the half-angelic half-demonic entity possessing Jesse. At a glance, in addition to not blowing Jesse up, Genesis has made him a much better, if much stranger, preacher.
In Preacher episode 2, Jesse will perform baptisms of his flock in a large metal tub, including Arseface (Ian Coletti) who promises to dedicate his life to the Lord. Arseface, in particular, is thrilled with the ritual and tells Jesse “you washed my sins away preacher and I’m saved.”
Fiore and DeBlanc watch the proceedings from afar through binoculars. As they watch, Fiore comments “it doesn’t make sense.” Seems like the angels were expecting a result more like the other ones where the false prophets were splattered on their horrified parishioners. So how did Jesse survive?
Tulip shows up in a tiny top and skirt and joins the baptism line and says mockingly “save me, father.” Jesse tells Tulip to leave but she won’t and insists on being baptized. She whispers to him that it’s time to get to work – remember she’s got a shady “job” she wants Jesse to help with.
Jesse tells her no and Tulip tells him “thanks for getting me all wet.” Emily (Lucy Griffiths) watches their exchange with what looks like jealousy in her eyes. Does the single mom have her eye on the violent preacher?
The premiere of ‘Preacher’ attracted 2.4 million viewers making it the second highest scripted show debut of 2016 with slightly less pull than ‘The People vs OJ Simpson.’ Episode 2 looks exciting as the two angels try to figure out how Jesse and Genesis are co-existing and Jesse tries to get Tulip to back off.
