Prince Harry has confirmed his relationship with Meghan Markle. The couple has been dating a few months, according to a press release from Kensington Palace. What should be a happy time in Harry’s life has turned ugly. In the press release issued by the Communication Secretary, Prince Harry states that over the past week too many lines have been crossed and the negative attention Meghan has attracted must be addressed.
The statement continues to explain that there are unseen battles being fought on behalf of Meghan behind the scenes. Legal battles have already begun to keep information that may be defamatory out of the press. Meghan’s mother, Doria Radlan, cannot leave her home without being bombarded by reporters and photographers. The police have been involved with instances where the paparazzi has tried to illegal gain access to Doria’s home.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. [Meghan] Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. [Meghan] Markle should be subjected to such a storm.”
If Meghan needs someone to turn to for advice regarding the relentless scrutiny of the media, Kate Middleton would love to be in the actress’s corner. Kate has dealt with the press for over 15 years, mercilessly hounded when it was discovered Kate Middleton was dating Prince William.
Harry has dealt with this kind of attention all his life and has played nice with the press. This time he’s not holding back. One can tell from the strongly worded letter that it must have been difficult for Harry to contain his fury. “[Harry] knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game.’ [Harry] strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.’

The Kensington Palace statement not only addressed Prince Harry’s fear for Meghan Markle’s safety, but also the “racial undertones of comment pieces, and the outright sexism and racism” displayed on social media. These comments are unacceptable and must stop.
Princess Diana received unprecedented attention when the press discovered she was dating Prince Charles. Kate Middleton was hounded unmercifully by the paparazzi until Prince William stepped in and issued a statement warning the press to leave Kate alone – but that statement was years in coming.
Things may not be serious at this point, but Meghan Markle may be the woman Prince Harry will take as his Royal bride. All Harry asks is that the world step back and stop harassing Meghan. Prince Harry has acknowledged that he and Meghan are dating and have been for a few months.
