Dr. Gus Willing was a well-known dentist in Miami. Apparently the doctors had a client list that looked more like a Forbes list than anything else and it seems he used to give these special clients whatever drugs they wanted. And yet, despite being so amendable, someone had shot him in front one of his regular clients.

So Captain Hornstock really wanted to solve this one. Both he and his narcotics team had completely overlooked the good doctor and therefore they have no idea about which of his clients were notoriously drug users and which were just clients. Though Hornstock had technically been a little bit more concerned with the embarrassment of the whole thing and so he only wanted his top people to investigate Willing’s murder. And that’s why he gave the case to Villa rather than to narcotics.

However, Hornstock wasn’t perfect because while giving the case to Villa had been a good decision he then made the mistake of teaming her up with a new transfer. A Detective Russ Hame that Villa had unfortunately met years ago. And who she didn’t want to know now.

Only Hornstock pushed the issue and Villa ultimately decided to at least try to work with Russ, but Rosewood hadn’t exactly felt the same way. Rosewood had also been put on the case after Max the regular medical examiner had gone through a faze that made him replaced the victim’s organs with stuffing paper. So Rosewood also had Hornstock breathing down his neck yet he still found time to question Hornstock’s decision to partner Villa with Russ. Russ being someone that Rosewood had felt was immature.

Yet, Hornstock and Villa for that matter had asked Rosewood to just focus on the case. They needed an autopsy of the bullet that had still been in Willing. And therefore they wanted Rosewood to hurry up with the results so that they could get back to work though, for some reason, Rosewood simply refused to be regulated back to a pathologist.

He said that he could help out in other words and later he constantly tried to insert himself in the investigation. So Villa had to take him aside after one of these incidents and she told him that she has a partner. A real partner that was a cop and not merely pretending to be one.

And Rosie was hurt. He didn’t want to admit it, but he had grown slightly jealous of Villa’s new working relationship with Russ that sometimes felt personal. In fact, Villa and Russ hadn’t even been partners for a day when Villa managed to take his side over Rosewood’s.

So later Rosewood decided to do something a bit out there. It seems he actively chose to investigate Russ even if was at the cost of his other case and ongoing case. And he also managed to drag the interim medical examiner that had taken over once Max had been put on a leave into his side investigation as well.

Anita who was an old friend of Rosewood had told him about Russ’s former partner and she had also given him a file on the late detective. Apparently Russ and his partner Garrett had been involved in a shoot-out that ended with Garrett’s death, but Anita had some reservations. She said there were some discrepancies in the Garrett’s file and so she hadn’t fought Rosewood over his decision to take the file back to his own lab.

But Villa had caught him looking at Garrett’s case and she had torn into him. She shouted at him that he wasn’t a cop and that he should finally stop acting like he was one. Then she left his place to go see her captain who she asked to step before Rosewood ruined their internal investigation into Russ’s involvement in his partner’s death.

Thus Hornstock and Villa knew that Russ was dirty however they were waiting to act until they had all their ducks in a row. Which is why Russ had gotten assigned as Villa’s partner. The two had working history and the higher powers figured he would be more willing to trust her than anyone else. Yet, Rosewood was set on separating Villa from Russ and all that led to there being a problem.

Russ grew to be suspicious of Villa and, when they had went to interview a known drug dealer that could be pushing in on the dentist’s old territory, he managed to make a deal with “Nova” when Villa’s back was turned. Though the only reason her back had been turned was because Rosewood had showed up again and she had to take him to a side for a chat about boundaries. So Rosewood cost Villa an opportunity.

And Russ had made arrangements to fake another shoot-out with “Nova’s” help.

So Villa later walked into a trap of Russ’s making and at first it had seemed like her only backup had been Rosewood. Rosewood who had continued looking into Russ and who recently found the proof that Russ had shot himself as well as his partner. And therefore, when he saw Villa and Russ driving away, he decided to follow.

However, Villa didn’t need his help. She knew that Russ wouldn’t be able to shoot her and “Nova” turned out to be an undercover DEA agent. Who had been working with Villa and Hornstock to take Russ down. Thus the only person that hadn’t known about the Russ operation had been Rosewood who was left feeling silly, but Villa had apologized afterwards for everything she had said.

And with their minds again focused on the dentist – they found out his neighbor shot him for sleeping with his wife.

THE END!
