Stiles was gone and unfortunately no one was looking for him. But the Riders hadn’t left town and they were still collecting people right underneath everyone’s noses. So eventually the Riders were seen by someone else. Mason and his boyfriend Corey had apparently been at the school late at night because they had been trying to earn extra credit when the Riders had appeared again. They had seemingly wanted to collect another teenage soul and that soul had nearly been the boys however, they had gotten lucky. Corey had the ability to turn himself invisible and he had used that to hide both Mason and himself.
So the Riders had missed them. They had the sense that the boys were there yet they couldn’t see them and so they had no other choice than walk right past them. However, they did go on to take someone else at the school. They had taken some teenager and the boys had witnessed everything. They had seen when the kid had been suspended from the air and sadly neither Corey nor Mason could recall the event later on. Their memories had simple been wiped again and so they didn’t have the complete story to tell Scott or Liam who had both been at the school and were equally worried about the Riders.
Yet, Scott and the others did appear to remember that the Riders do exist so that had been something at least. Their knowledge of the Riders had alerted them to the fact that the creatures were collecting people and so their problem was just that they couldn’t recall who they were collecting though Mason and then later Corey had wondered about that last part. The boys had had some of their memories of that night so they knew that something had been suspended midair and had thought it was strange until they questioned what the Riders were holding up. And so that had been their warning bell.
That had told the boys that their memories were being tampered with. Though things were different with Scott, Malia, and especially Lydia. They had moments were they thought a word or picture had looked off to them and they had mostly dismissed as a mere feeling because they didn’t know how to explain it. So Mason and Corey had been the driving force in trying to remember. They had come to suspect that someone was missing so they had tried talking Lydia’s mother into letting them see the school files. And so they kept pursing that angle even as Ms. Martin told them that the school was a safe haven from werewolf stuff.
The boys had ended up going to the sheriff’s office afterwards to see if anyone had been reported missing and they had gotten some answers however it hadn’t been ones they expected. They had been told by Deputy Parrish that no one had been reported as missing and that they might have let their imagination get away from them. But the boys knew differently. They had talked about it and they said that someone must have gotten taken and hadn’t been reported yet. So they still tried looking into missing persons and that led to some issues with Liam. Liam felt Corey was taking Mason down the wrong road so he tried warn his friend not to trust Corey.
Liam had said that Corey hadn’t been around when they went up against the beast last year and so he didn’t trust Corey because Corey had stayed with Theo the longest. However, Corey had overheard that and it caused an argument with Mason. Mason believed if Corey wanted to be trusted that he shouldn’t be spying on people yet Corey felt that Mason should have stuck up for him more with Liam. So something had to give and in the end Corey gave way because he thought he could develop a truce with Liam. Corey and Liam both wanted to take down the Ghost Riders so Corey told Liam they should do it together.
Yet, Corey and Liam did find something together. They found a library card by turning invisible one more time and the card helped them remember a kid they had all forgotten that they saw. So they were getting some place and thankfully they weren’t the only ones that were suddenly working towards something. Scott and the others were later trying to find ways to remember Stiles. Scott could recall that he had a best friend so he tried retracing his steps and it was only afterward that he called Malia and Lydia. The girls’ memories of Stiles had also been fighting to reemerge and so Scott had merely connected the dots for them.
He said that there were parts of his memories when he knew someone was with him and simply couldn’t recall who it was. So he should them the photo where they were all together and that’s how they knew. They knew that ‘Stiles’ existed and that the gaps in their memories hadn’t been natural. Though what they couldn’t figure out was how to get their friend back and they also had the additionally problem of not remembering Stiles’s name or that his father was still around. The sheriff however, didn’t know something was wrong because his new wife was proving to be a great distraction. And so it had taken Deaton for them to put the last pieces together.
Deaton had used the glass that Scott found out in the forest to trigger a memory and it had worked. Lydia’s hands began working on their own and she wrote Stiles’s name. So her last question had been who was Stiles?
THE END!
