Claire was unraveling again. Apparently she too had begun to see Ben as part of the family and not just a temporary visitor. So she had actually come to care for him and wanted to see him get the treatment he needed rather than do what Willa wanted. Which was to leave him to fend for himself while the rest of them moved on. But then Willa had told her the truth about what happened to Adam and that left Claire wanting nothing to do with either her daughter or her son’s killer.

Only Claire felt like she needed something after she found out about Ben. So she had taken a little trip to the pit where both boys were held and there she imagined seeing Adam again. And that allowed her to finally have the conversation with him that’s been wanting for years.

She got ask him why he had gone off with a stranger that day and she had also gotten her chance to yell. For Claire was angry and not just about her son’s death. She was angry at the fact that Adam had also gone with a stranger because of a dog and so she had needed to yell at her son for ignoring everything that she had taught him. And more than anything else Claire needed to let go of Adam now that she couldn’t pretend with Ben anymore.

Though did Ben really kill Adam? Ben’s memories of the past often tell different and conflicting stories. He remembers befriending Adam and then he remembers having and argument with him during Adam’s first days there. Adam had supposedly told Ben that he was different than him because his family wasn’t going to stop looking for him. And yet that implied that no one had found Ben because no one had been looking for him.

So it’s understandable why the two may not have been on the best terms however Ben also had other memories of what happened down in the pit. He remembered being the one to encourage Adam to find a way out and he remembered trying to convince Adam to stick with tunneling their way out instead of trying to escape through the front door. Yet, Adam had wanted to take that chance.

And so it was a tad confusing at first what exactly down in the pit. However, Ben did finally connect everything for us. He remembered how Adam had come up with a plan for them both to escape and how he had chickened out at the last minutes because he had been afraid of what Doug to them. So that’s when he remembered the very moment that Doug had killed Adam by bludgeoning him to death and why he had felt responsible for what happened to Adam.

Yet, back in the present, there simply wasn’t enough to feel guilty anymore. Doug had been found with a gunshot wound to the crotch and a grateful Agent Clements had been rescued by his partner. Even though everyone else at the police station had already given up. So the truth was slowly coming out whether anyone liked it or not.

Apparently Agent Clements had left behind a message, like he was asked, for his husband that said he was evening out and was too embarrassed to show himself until he did. But the message had been a clue for Nina. So that’s how she was able to track him down and the fact she came across an injured Doug had been just pure luck. Jane had shot and left him behind once she realized that he was going to kill Clements. And it seems that was the one thing to make her give on him, but Nina and Clements were then left wondering what to do with Doug.

Clements had never seen him while he was down in the basement because Doug had always sent Jane in instead. So Clements couldn’t identify him as their guy and Ben had already cleared him. Though that last part changed after Ben decided to tell Danny the truth before he left the Warren household. Ben felt like he couldn’t stick around anymore so he had purposely cut ties before he tried to hitchhiking anywhere else.

However, Claire and Willa went looking for Ben when they saw that he was gone and so they later found him by the side of the road. And thankfully the ladies were able to convince Ben to come back, but he warned them about Danny. How he told Danny the truth about him being Ben. So Willa had volunteered to speak with Danny and try to handle the fallout – only Danny was done with the lies. And he decided to leave the family for a while.

But someone killed eventually Bridey just after she had changed her mind about publishing her tell-all and surprisingly the bones found on Doug’s property didn’t belong to Adam. Adam it seems had been moved by Doug before he could actually die from his injuries and so he had been treated for them. Which meant Adam was very much alive. And the revelations just get stranger after that.

It was revealed that at some point in time, Adam and Jane had met each other and developed some sort of bond. So Jane had let Adam shoot Doug in the genitals and the two of them plus the baby were in fact in the middle of making their escape to Canada when Adam called his old house. And warned Ben who answered the phone that he was going to go back one day to reclaim his old life.

THE END!
