Adam, at least the Adam that returned, is angry. So much so that he had asked his father on tonight’s all new episode why John and the rest had been so sure he was dead. And if they hadn’t been then why did stop looking for him?
Adam apparently had to get those things off his chest because he said he had been waiting for his family to come find him and that simply never happened. Therefore, Adam had told his father in a roundabout way that John had failed him. He had his expected his father to be his hero yet John had surprisingly ended up as one of the chief suspects in his disappearance ten years ago. And there had been a reason for that.
The police department had in fact brought Claire in all those years ago to ask her about her husband. For the two had been together campaigning that day and so Claire was supposed to know if her husband ever left her side. And whether or not he was capable of hurting one of their children.
Yet she hadn’t wanted to believe them with what she thought was mere insinuations. She had defended her husband and said that he might have gone to the bathroom. Which would have been a couple of minutes at best. Only a camera had captured John driving across town on the day that Adam had gone missing and John hadn’t come back until an hour had passed.
So Claire only became suspicious of John after her conversation with the police. Though, she hadn’t bothered to pretend that she did have some doubts when she got home and therefore she had questioned her husband about where he had been. And he told her that it had simply been an errand, but it had sounded like a lie to her and she knew that it would sound like a lie to the police as well.
And thus ten years ago, it had looked like a once seemingly perfect marriage been mostly destroyed by innuendo.
However, Willa had seen something else on the day Adam had disappeared. That same night she had seen her father come into the house after everyone else had gone to sleep and had caught him washing dirt off his hands. As if he had either buried something or had gotten involved in something he shouldn’t have.
Meaning the cops had been right to be suspicious of John. He had been keeping things from them and he had been more on the defensive than he had originally let on. But it had been Willa that had assured him at the time that both knew he wasn’t the killer and that they knew who was!
Only that hadn’t been a confession on her part.
Another flashback apparently revealed that Willa and her father had later coordinated a way to plant evidence on Hank Asher as so that’s who she meant when she made the earlier statement. Yet the one person that hadn’t been let in on what the two were doing or what was actually going on had been Nina Meyer. The woman that John eventually began sleeping with and who put a man behind bars based on evidence that he had fabricated.
And, mind you, she had been a police off at that particular time. So Meyer’s pride had been smarting and she felt as if she failed romantically and professionally for simply arresting Hank. On what turned out to be a tip from John of all people.
After all it had been John to make a “911” stating he believed a child was in danger because he heard screaming from Hank’s place. And a good police officer would have followed up on that call rather than just see as a godsend.
Which is why Meyer later told John that she didn’t want see him anymore. However, by then, it was too late. She had already been compromised and if it got out then her career would be ruined for her lack of follow-up. And so there was a part of Meyer that wondered if her blind-sidedness all those years ago could have been the reason why she hadn’t found Adam in all those years.
And while it was Meyer that was feeling as if she was recovering from a betrayal, it had been the Warren family that sat down together for an interview. Where they were supposed to talk about Claire’s politics as well as keep to their party. Yet, that somehow resulted in Claire going off script and suddenly wanting plant microchips in all sex offenders which would include Hank. For if he had been chipped then he would have been exonerated of Adam’s death years ago.
So to some it had looked like Claire was taking a hard line on politics, but to others it had looked like the perfect motive for lying about Adam.
Bridey had gone to the lab that ran Adam’s DNA test and they had given her nothing. Although she had seen that they were the leading company in microchips and so she knew that the company was going to get rich off Claire’s plan. And that they could have granted her a favor if they wanted to.
And most surprisingly Danny had found out about Bridey but still wanted to give her a story.
