Hank Asher was left badly bleeding on last week’s episode of “The Family”. Yet in this one instance, can the victim truly be believed when he accuses a member of the Warren family, in particular John, of attacking him?

Hank had only recently gotten out of prison and in that time he’s managed to rub that family in the wrong way. First, by refusing to accept John’s initial apology for his incarceration then by implying that he wished he had in fact hurt Adam. So the Warren family had later had a restraining order issued against Hank because they had felt he could still be a threat to their family. And Hank chose to respond to that restraining order by ignoring it.

He had gone out into the street which crossed the limits of how far he was supposed to be from them and that same night someone had apparently broken into his home. And assaulted him. Thus Hank could be telling the truth about what happened next or he could be lying. Either way, though, John had eventually been seen with a cut on his hand and it has made him like the guilty party.

And so Detective Miller had been quick to pick up on that when she later questioned John. Although John had told his family and tried telling her that he had gotten the scratch from one of their neighbor’s dogs yet he did admit to arguing with Hank Asher that night. Hank had after all been seen standing on their lawn so John admitted that he had gone out there and had threaten to call the police on Hank if he didn’t move.

But it all just looked bad. Hank who had previously looked into filing lawsuit against the family because of their “irrational” behavior towards him was suddenly assaulted in his home which implies that he was adhering to the court order and the weapon used on him had been a bat from the Warren household. So John’s fingerprints were found all over it and that more than anything else placed him in Hank’s home.

Only the family was stuck trying to come up with a defense when their own alarm system showed activity in middle of the night. Apparently someone had used the alarm code to leave and reenter the house when everyone else was asleep though Danny swears it wasn’t him. He says he’s stopped drinking and so he would have known if he had left the house, but he had also seen Adam’s face when Willa had accused him. And therefore he knew who had left the house.

Though Danny hadn’t said anything in front of their parents or Willa. He had chosen to instead wait to ask Adam until he was alone why he had left and that allowed Adam to admit what he was too afraid to say out loud. Adam said he wanted to know if he could leave if he wanted to because sometimes he didn’t feel as if he could. So after he had opened about that, Adam then told Danny that he got another postcard from the pock-marked man.

The pock-marked man had apparently been sending Adam postcards from all the places he had once promised to take Adam to if Adam ever started being “good” that is. So the police have been using the post cards to track the kidnapper’s movements because they knew he was working his way up the east coast. Probably to New York. Yet, the police had later found the pock-marked man on one of his stops and they had overlooked him seeing as he had been traveling with his pregnant wife.

And therefore the pock-marked man had been alerted to the fact the police were looking for him. So he had later changed his mind about going all the way to New York and told his wife that maybe they should just go back home. Even using her advanced pregnancy as the worst time to finish up a road trip.

But back home, the family was dealing with the PR fall-out. John having been initially accused of vigilantism and being an overzealous hothead yet Bridey had surprisingly turned everything around for them. She had gone online to start up a #Papabear campaign and that changed the way things were going. What with a lot people being able to empathize with a scared father than the sex offender he had allegedly assaulted.

So Bridey had done the Warrens a favor, but naturally she had also wanted something out of it. She wanted their trust. Bridey and Danny had had a falling out last week after he accused her of rummaging through Adam’s things and, while she had denied it, she had stolen Adam’s DNA from a trash can as well as collected John’s DNA while she was at it. And so she had a DNA test ready, but her editor had told her that she needed corroboration from the family before he could print anything she found.

However, the family wasn’t going to be nice to her if she and Danny were on the outs so she tried to win them back with her campaign that did make John look good again. Only John hadn’t actually needed her help and that’s because he was innocent all along. Hank had picked a fight with him on the night in question yet Nina had found the blisters on Hank’s hands to be very distinctive. Almost as if he had been wielding a bat.

Thus Hank had honestly faked his assault in order to get John arrested. Though, this time, the detective knew what to look for in a staged crime scene and so she found evidence of John being innocent. Which allowed Hank to drop the charges out of his volition.

Although Willa had still showed up to meet with Bridey later and she definitely appeared to be interested when Bridey kissed her. So now both Danny and Willa will probably be left feeling betrayed to know that Adam isn’t who he said he was and that Bridey has known about it for a while. And chose to make it part of her story.

THE END!
