‘The Family’ spoilers for Season 1 Finale Episode 12 ‘What Took So Long’ reveal that newly minted governor Claire Warren (Joan Allen) will take a field trip to the literal hell hole where fake Adam aka Ben (Liam James) and real Adam, her son, were held for a decade.
Claire has been there before but is horrified when she goes down inside and sees the squalor her son lived in for a decade – and died – particularly now that she knows from Willa Warren (Allison Pill) that Ben killed Adam – but it looks like Willa is off the mark.
Ben admitted he “hurt” Adam but not that he killed him. It’s one thing for Ben to be pretending to be Adam (that’s bad enough) – but it’s quite another for her to tolerate her son’s killer at her side. Claire assumes Willa is correct but the finale trailer shows someone else attacking Adam.
Claire and the Warrens – including Ben, Willa, and her cheating husband John Warren (Rupert Graves) – takes the stage looking like a happy family. But things aren’t so good – Claire confronts Ben and says she knows what he did to Adam.
Also, Ben comes clean to Danny Warren (Zach Gilford) about who he really is. Jane (Zoe Perry) is trying to get out of town and it looks like she is not with Doug (Michael Esper). However, Nina Meyer (Margot Bingham) is close to running down where Doug and Jane were hiding out.
Is Gabe Clements (Matthew Lawler) still there and bleeding out? Jane wanted him to stop looking for her and Doug, but will he agree, and how will she get away from Doug? Will Nina find Gabe, Doug, or both?
Hank Asher (Andrew McCarthy) struggles with his dark side – will he show up for his chemical castration appointment so he doesn’t go full perv again, or is he so disgusted that the real perpetrator, Doug, got away that will he indulge his tendencies?
We see Hank with a young boy in his car. The boy has some sort of run in with his bike and Hank’s car. Did Hank rig the accident to get the boy into his vehicle? Will the kid escape unmolested? Will Hank think better of it or do what he wants since he’s been punished anyway?
Bridey Cruz (Floriana Lima) has found Ben’s biological mother – Sally (Rachel Bay Jones) – so how will that play out? Bridey ran off without telling Sally that she knows where her son is because she wants to break her big story. Will this come out at the inauguration event?
Clearly, Ben’s world is about to change forever. Claire and Willa think the kid is guilty of murdering Adam and Claire may have a record short reign as governor if all of this blows up as she’s sworn into office. Will all the secrets come out at once?
We know Adam was barely alive when Ben carried him out. Is there a chance that Adam is really alive? Is that a big twist coming in the season finale? Share your comments on the finale action and be sure to come back to CDL for a LIVE recap of “The Family” Season 1 finale episode “What Took So Long.”
