Now Brandon and Callie’s s love story had the allure of Romeo & Juliette. They had been foster brother and sister when they first began developing feelings for each other and they had recently crossed the line between longing looks and actually making their home lives pretty difficult. But, once Callie had gotten officially adopted, they both swore to put all those feelings as well as what ultimately happened between them in the past.
And so you would think that Brandon would have been fine to see Callie move on. Especially as he’s been currently trying to date a young woman by the name of Cortney and hadn’t honestly looked Callie’s way in months. However, Brandon wasn’t quite on board with the idea.
He began acting oddly around the house and Callie could tell something was up. Yet, fortunately, her parents had surprised even her by being ok with the fact she was now dating AJ. They said that AJ wasn’t being fostered by them anymore and so they didn’t see a problem. Nor did anyone else.
Mariana was naturally on board because Callie is her sister and she supports her. And both Jude and Jesus were kind of non-starters. Jude had gone away for a retreat and Jesus was too busy dealing with his own issues. Such as his father being not that bad of guy and yet wanting nothing to do with him.
So the one problem that Callie had in moving on just happened to be Brandon and he was having a pretty tough time. First Brandon hadn’t taken Callie’s dating news well, but his day really got worse when he later found out about the principle wanting to shut down his play for his Senior’s Project because of the suicide trigger issues involved with William Shakespeare’s actual Romeo & Juliette. And therefore Brandon was forced to justify his rock opera version of Shakespeare in front of the Honor Board.
As if that was going to unbiased. The Student Honor Board was basically run by Brandon’s biggest detractor and Sally Benton had the support of the principle. Who just last week helped her with her own Senior’s Project.
But Monte hadn’t liked the way Lena had told her that she had overstepped with Sally last week. So there had been a part of Lena that wondered if the Brandon issue was some sort of payback stemming from that.
Only that wasn’t an accusation she could start throwing around because it honestly might result in some very real payback. Thus Lena tried to bite her tongue on this one and she told Brandon to do the same. In fact, Lena told her son to just wait until the Honor Board where he could argue his side.
And it turns out Brandon could argue his side very well. He eventually pointed out that neither Rome & Juliette’s relationship nor their death could be idolized. He said they had been impulsive teenagers who got so carried away by their emotions that they ended up as a tragedy rather than a love story.
Therefore, the vote could have gone in any direction and it helped that Sally and Mariana had to recuse themselves. But two people voted against Brandon’s play on tonight’s episode of “The Fosters” and that meant Brandon did have to find another Senior’s Project. And that Mariana lost out on her first lead.
Mariana, as we know, had signed on to do the play after she lost the Junior Class Presidency because she said she needed something to take her mind off of losing. Yet, when the play looked like it was going to fall through, Nick decided to step. Nick and Mariana had previously gone on a first date and it had unfortunately been a bust. So to make things up to her, Nick told her that they could throw the play in his dad’s warehouse.
Apparently, the play could still count as both Brandon and Matt’s Senior’s Project if it’s not done on school grounds. And Nick clearly wanted to win enough brownie points with Mariana that he was willing to offer whatever he could. Thus today it could be a warehouse and tomorrow it could be the thousand dollars’ worth of sound system they’re going to need.
Although, across town, both Stef and Jesus were learning about the correct emotional response in situations that could either be uncomfortable or triggers.
Stef had been assigned to desk duty following her double mastectomy and so she was put in charge of ‘Emotional Intelligence’ class that was supposed to teach young offenders how to best respond when she found out that Jesus was going to need that class as well. Jesus has been drinking lately and, after one incident of this, Gabe had brought him home because he didn’t want Jesus wandering the streets drunk. So Stef stepped in because she too what was really driving Jesus down a dark path.
The boy wanted to know Gabe and refused to let it go even though any relationship could have ended with Gabe getting thrown back to jail. Therefore, Stef took him to her class and one of the first things she wanted to teach the young group was that she was a cancer survivor. And how sometimes she still finds herself incredible angry with what happened to her.
But that was a situation she knew had to face.
And for that matter so did Brandon with Callie’s new relationship and Jesus with the lack of relationship he was going to have with his biological father.
Yet Callie was forced to learn something as well. Rita’s daughter had contacted her wanting Rita’s new phone number. Only Rita didn’t want to initiate contact because she knew her disturbed only child was going to demand money.
So Rita had tried to ignore her child and, in the end, it had been Callie that had been there to call 911 and get Rita’s daughter help for her failed suicide attempt. And it seems that Rita was also going to need help with her Emotional Intelligence.
And, oh, Sally Benton went to Lena’s office to state a complaint.
Apparently, Monte had kissed her!
THE END!
