Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) is meeting with a man (Rick Hearst) who claims to be a pacifist but makes steel pressed machinery. He says they make the entire gun, but the bullets. Damon presses him on his work and points out that he brought his business partner, Enzo St. John (Michael Malarkey) to the party. When Damon asks if he brought his wife, he replies with, “Why bring sand to the beach?”
Damon tells him, he wants to bring him to his buyer, and that he is sure she will find him utterly irresistible. Or course, he brings him to her while she is swimming in a pool, and she starts to sing like a Siren, and he is instantly mesmerized. She informs Damon that Enzo needs to be like him and be ALL in; that he also needs to stop trying to be rescued.
As she drowns the man, Damon says this is the slowest death ever, she tells him that she has learned that if they remain calm they taste better, and Damon sarcastically tells her every time they brought her people before, they were in full freak out mode. She then says fear is delicious and brings the man out of his trance and watches him drown terrified.
Caroline Forbes (Candice King) is writing to Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) to let her know that Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) had heard somewhat from Enzo. She tells her it wasn’t actually a love note, but close enough. She continues to tell her that she has officially moved in with Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), and she absolutely loves it. She says the house needs work and Stefan is happy to comply, although she isn’t sure he is breaking down walls for renovations or if it’s out of frustration over losing Damon’s trail again.
Caroline tells her that they have not received any more unwelcomed house guests but Alaric “Ric” Saltzman (Matthew Davis) isn’t taking any chances. He is working at home, and determined to find out who it was; both are happy that the twins have no idea they were in any kind of danger. Caroline is surprisingly calm when Ric mentions Seline (Kristen Gutoskie). Seline brings Ric paperwork for the girls’ trip, and she also asks about being overpaid, but Ric tells her they decided to give her a raise.
Damon is sleeping and dreaming about seeing Katherine, he keeps going back to his memory of when he first met Elena. As Damon sleeps, the siren attempts to get Enzo under her spell, and he tells her he has done almost everything for her. She is angry about the ‘almost’ and tries to read his mind again. When she can’t, she tells him she did get a name, Sarah Nelson; when she questions him about her, he says he doesn’t know who she is and doesn’t care.
Bonnie, Stefan and Caroline are looking for crimes further away from them, but Bonnie says he hasn’t left any more. Stefan tells her that he is playing double agent and may need to stay cool for a while. Caroline finds a police report about two women who had neck wounds, both with the name of Sarah Nelson. Stefan says Enzo has left another clue because there is a Sarah Nelson living in North Carolina, and her real name is Sarah Salvatore, and his last living relative, unless Damon gets to her first.
Caroline explains that Stefan hid Sarah away from everyone, including Damon, but Enzo and Sarah are frienemies. Stefan says he is not trying to get into Enzo or Damon’s head, only that he is trying to save Sarah. Alaric is back at the armory and his assistant, Georgie is there. He informs her that he is working on sirens, and he found a book from Harvey who claims he was hearing the voice of a siren back in 1790.
Enzo and Damon discuss why Enzo is resisting instructions. He tells Damon he is there with him in North Carolina stalking Sarah Nelson, but he wants to know what their boss lady is all about and what is her grand plan. Damon says he isn’t afraid of her, he is just afraid of the eternal damnation she showed him in his mind. Enzo tells him it is all mind games and it’s not true.
Damon jumps up when he sees Sarah (Tristin Mays) approaching them, but before Damon could do anything, Enzo introduces Damon as “Damon Salvatore”, and they ask if they could speak in private. Enzo taught her how to defend herself and she stabs Damon with Verbana. Enzo tells her she needs to pack her stuff and get out of town, but as they enter her dorm room, Stefan, Caroline and Bonnie are there. When Enzo sees Bonnie, he says, “Hello love!”
Alaric keeps watching his phone and Georgie asks if he is waiting on a call, he says he is waiting to hear from Seline. She taunts him about his hot nanny. He says in 1790 the armoury received a mysterious shipment from the town of Mystic Falls; the crate was placed in the vault for safety and some of the artifacts were from 2200 BC; Georgie makes fun of him about the Siren.
Caroline calls Alaric, and tells him that Enzo is fighting mind control and won’t even look at Bonnie. Enzo tells Bonnie about the Siren and how him and Damon are stuck serving her. Bonnie wants to know what her weakness is, and when Enzo says he has to return to her soon, Bonnie grabs his hand and tells him he is safe now. He pulls away and tells her he isn’t allowed to think about how important she is to him, because if he does, she will be the one the siren wants dead.
Sarah talks to Stefan, who wants her to be a little less pissed at him. Sarah is upset that Stefan compelled and lied to her, and she only trusts Enzo. Bonnie stabs Enzo with Verbana and kidnaps him herself. Damon steals Caroline’s daylight ring and crushes her phone; and when Caroline asks him what he is doing, he tells her he was told to have fun. Sarah is still with Stefan, when Damon crashes through the window. He is ready to kill Sarah when Stefan tells him that Sarah is their Uncle Zack’s daughter.
Alaric comes to find Georgie, and wants to know why that symbol freaked her out, she shows that the symbol is tattooed into her body. Alaric asks her what the story is, she asks him if he believes in hell. He asks her how she knows about the symbol and she tells him she saw it when she was dead.
A few years ago, she was driving home with a friend, but texting and drunk. She drove across the yellow line but doesn’t remember the crash, but remembers waking up in a place that was filled with pain, loneliness and fear. In the middle of it all, she could see the symbol and the EMTs revived her. She said she spent a year in prison and all she studied was hell, and everything she could learn about it. Alaric says she solved a piece of the puzzle, and doesn’t think she is crazy at all.
Bonnie is driving with Enzo in the back and told her she will take him as far away from the siren as she can. He starts to bleed and hold his head, he tells her that she is on attack and they are bonded by their minds. Bonnie refuses to leave him, and he admits that she never lost him, but the longer he stays with her, the more dangerous it is for her. He begs her to let him go.
Damon and Stefan continue to argue, and Stefan begs him to not kill Sarah for Elena and for him. He lets Sarah go and tells her to run. As Sarah runs out the door, the Siren stabs her. Stefan tries to feed her blood to revive her, but the siren takes control of Stefan’s mind; asking Damon who Elena is.
Caroline is stabbed in the back, but sees her daylight ring, and tries to grab it. Stefan can’t move and the siren is pressing his head to see what his connection to Elena is. She sees his memories of him meeting her, and says she can fix this. Thanking Damon for letting her take a peek. She takes over his memories saying she is Sybil (Nathalie Kelley).
Stefan begs Damon to help Sarah. He tells him to fight, and Damon asks why? Stefan cries that he is sorry when Sarah dies. Damon leaves with Sybil, telling Stefan not to worry about his brother, that she has taken away his last mental refuge and given it a remodel. Stefan says that Damon is a lot strong than she thinks; she says he isn’t.
Bonnie returns and pulls the knife out of Caroline’s back. She says she made the mistake of trying to get Enzo out of town, and explains that he isn’t safe. She admits that she couldn’t break the siren’s spell on him and had to let him go. Caroline is upset that this was all for nothing, and they needed Bonnie here with them. Bonnie said she had to be with Enzo and try to save him. She had a life planned with him, to come home to him every night and grow old with him.
Caroline thinks Bonnie went rogue because she is jealous and angry that Stefan and Caroline are happy. Bonnie tells her she is happy for them, but she is so alone without Enzo that she just wants to die. Caroline asks her if that is how she really feels. Bonnie says she hates herself for feeling that way, but it’s true.
Caroline tells her she isn’t alone and she is sorry for being a terrible friend and she is there for her. Bonnie tells her this is none of her fault and Caroline promises that together they will save Enzo. Caroline says Bonnie’s happiness is a part of her happiness, and she is going to fix this for both of them. Stefan comes out, and they learn that Sarah is dead.
Seline is home with the twins when Alaric comes home and says he is sorry for being late, and ruining her evening. Alaric tells Seline everything that is happening at work, and when she asks how he knew where his intern’s secret tattoo was, he said it was research. Georgie is on the phone and he says goodnight to Seline.
Georgie tells Alaric she found something from the Midsummer’s Day 1790. She says the artifact she found has the identical symbol as her tattoo. She believes it was made in hell. Meanwhile Enzo returns to Sybil and Damon. Damon grabs Enzo’s heart while Sybil attempts to get into his mind. This time she sees Bonnie and Enzo kissing, and Enzo promises he will never stop fighting. He will brave the oceans, and sail past the sirens to find her way back to her.
Sybil asks Enzo why he hasn’t seen her before. Stefan is distraught and Caroline tells him he needs to talk about it, and not keep it to himself. He said he has to. He is the last Salvatore standing, and any blood relative he had or knew are now all gone. Stefan says he is the reason every single Salvatore is dead. Caroline reminds him that Damon is not gone, Stefan says he is gone and belongs to the siren now. Caroline tells him to not give up hope.
Stefan wants to show Caroline something. He shows her that he is converting some of the rooms for the twins, so they can sleep side by side. There is an antique dresser there and he tells her to check it out, when she opens the drawer there is a ring box in it, and he says that is for her. He tells her he was hoping she would wear it. Caroline asks him like what, as a friendship ring? He asks her if he really needs to say it.
“Caroline Elizabeth Forbes, will you do me the honor of wearing this engagement ring, as a token of my love?” She kisses him and then tells him to get to the point. “ I want you to marry me! Will you?” Caroline smiles and kisses him, saying “YES!”
THE END!
