“The Walking Dead” spoilers for Season 7 reveal that it may in fact be Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) that met a horrible end with Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) bat beating since he’s now shooting a new Plan B film by Brad Pitt called Okja.
Okja is being produced by Brad Pitt and directed by Bong Joon-Ho who formerly directed post-apocalyptic flick Snowpiercer. The movie will shoot in the US, Canada and South Korea and is a dual language film shot in both Korean and English.
Also starring in Okja are Tilda Swinton (Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw), Lily Collins (To The Bone) and Devon Bostick (The 100). It’s a $50 million project backed by Netflix – so it’s not like it’s a week-long indie film shoot – it’s a big deal.
How can Steven Yeun work on that shoot out of the country and also be in Georgia filming “The Walking Dead” Season 7? Doesn’t seem possible, does it? But it makes total sense if Glenn is dead and gone and Steven Yeun is free to work on other projects far away from GA.
Yeun just wrapped filming on another project – Mayhem – and it looks like he’s flipped immediately over to the Okja project. However, down in Georgia, shooting for TWD Season 7 is slated to start anywhere between Monday April 25 and Monday May 2.
They could have already shot Glenn’s death scene freeing him up to make this new movie. Of course, other TWD actors work on other projects often but they do so on hiatus – not when TWD is starting up a fresh season of shooting.
It was already a likely conclusion that Glenn was Negan’s chosen victim since he died in the comics and nearly everyone else in the lineup has been effectively eliminated from considerination aside from Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Daryl (Norman Reedus).
Daryl’s death does NOT make sense in terms of character arc while Abraham and Glenn do. But with Steven Yeun starting up yet another new project it seems like Glenn may be gone, gone, gone! Three strikes from the bat and he’s out!
Glenn’s death would be most poignant for viewers who do NOT read the comics since Maggie (Lauren Cohan) is pregnant and the baby is in distress. Her losing him would be devastating – and heartbreaking loss is the underlying theme of “The Walking Dead.”
And for The Walking Dead fans who watch the show AND read the comics, they want Glenn to die since it was a pivotal moment in the books and the Season 6 final death action was almost word for word and scene for scene what it was in the comics as Glenn was killed by Negan.
