The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Dylan (Steve Burton) will be killed while on an undercover stakeout in Genoa City. His write-out also means that Y&R will push Sharon (Sharon Case) in a new direction. Burton announced his voluntary departure from CBS’ reigning daytime steamer in the fall. He filmed his last scenes earlier this month. The Dylan character will last be seen in January.
The setup to Dylan’s death took deeper root when Paul (Doug Davidson) was recently talking with Christine (Lauralee Bell) in his office. Christine was debating her husband about the merits of placing Dylan in a dangerous situation so soon after his son went through the Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) ordeal. But Paul felt that he’d be able to handle it.
People in Dylan’s line of work voluntarily put themselves into harm’s way in order to protect society. Are there bad guys (and ladies) on that thin blue line? Sure. But those who believe crooked souls represent a majority of the police contingent, or even a large percentage, should join the force themselves. Don’t simply defame, or pretend to be experts on other people’s lives. No, suit up and change what you think is wrong from within, or at least encourage those you know to do so.
Dylan served his country overseas, back when many of the same aforementioned detractors also questioned use of the armed forces in current conflicts. Then Mr. McAvoy came home, learned who his biological father (and mother) was, and followed in Paul’s footsteps, as well as his grandfather’s. Yes, Dylan became a two-time hero.
Paul lost Ricky (Peter Porte) under far different circumstances. Ricky was mentally unbalanced and died under self-imposed circumstances. Dylan will also go out dramatically, but will be forever revered.
Sharon will surely be devastated. But this woman is amazingly resilient, which will serve to neutralize the ‘Shater’s’ who can’t stand Case’s character. Possibly this contingent is jealous of someone who’s overcome the loss of her daughter (Cassie, Camryn Grimes), Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) betrayal shortly thereafter and countless instances of Newman family interference. She’s also battled to take control of her bipolar disorder, in case the name-callers have forgotten that as well.
Yes, Sharon did steal, sleep around and burn down a certain house, among other things. But some of those incidents can be attributed to her mental health issues. The others, well, they add color to this sexy woman’s character. Wink!
Dylan’s death will set Sharon on a new, independent course. She won’t instantly bond with a new man. Instead, this widow will pull her life together and actually become respected in the community again. That’s right, this will certainly be some story(line) in 2017!
