The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Jack (Peter Bergman) will maintain his Scrooge-like personality into 2017. By his actions and words Mr. Abbott is becoming more like classic Victor (Eric Braeden) each day. Meanwhile The Moustache has hinted at taking a genuinely nicer turn. The Christmastime character switches fit with current arcs and has potential to be sustained into 2017.
It makes sense that Jack would recoil after being wronged by Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Billy (Jason Thompson). Losing various business and personal wars to Victor over the years wasn’t nearly as bad as having his wife and brother destroy trust. Seasoned Y&R viewers who look for believability in any storyline can relate to Jack if they’ve been devastated by a soul mate, a family member or both at any time in their lives.
Equally logical is Victor’s desire to step back from his business interests if he can find the right people to manage the store. Sure, he won’t ride horses each day with Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) on the ranch. But dialing back regular involvement with his corporate conglomerate as he lives through his mid-70’s is a choice many business owners, regardless of their total worth, have made.
So Jack told Brash and Sassy that it must vacate his building by New Year’s Eve. That company is a competitor and the potential for hostile takeover is looming. Consider that a hostile takeover of Fenmore’s could mean that Lauren’s (Tracey Bregman’s) entity would be put physically under Jabot’s roof. Placement in that soon-to-be unoccupied space seems practical. Yes, that would be a naughty maneuver on Jack’s part.
Of course it appears as though Jack’s plan to kiss off Phyllis will hit a snag if he completes the desired Fenmore’s transaction. Phyllis is on the verge of giving Jack her resignation and going to work for Lauren. Simple soapy math puts Fenmore’s under Jabot’s umbrella in the near future, with Phyllis still part of Jack’s equation.
Victor is right to cut off opportunities for continued family conflict. One way he could accomplish that goal is by giving more control to the younger generation of Newman’s, which includes: Abby (Melissa Ordway), Summer (Hunter King) and possibly, Noah (Robert Adamson). Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) might become involved again as well. But the other three Newman family members mentioned are better bets to be given power at Victor’s company.
By maintaining his commitment to family member control at Newman Enterprises Victor would gain significant goodwill. His unexpected turn would also likely establish far more positive relationships with those he loves. Plus, he could enjoy the fruits of his labors at this later point in life. Yes, it would be nice.
