“The Young and The Restless” spoilers clearly indicate that Adam Newman and portrayer Justin Hartley are NOT departing Y&R. CBS Soaps In Depth published a cover story with the alarmist headline “Will Justin be Forced to Leave?” hearkening the departure of Justin Hartley – yet the article provided no new information and had some Y&R fans needlessly worried.
The implication was that Justin Hartley might be “leaving (Y&R) for primetime” because of his outside acting projects. In fact, when Justin was hired to take on the role of Adam Newman, it was with a clear understanding that the show would work around other Hartley projects.
Plenty of actors have worked on two shows at once, particularly since soaps have flexible shooting schedules which don’t require all actors to be on set every day. Of course we wish Hartley good luck on the recent Dan Fogel-Alan Thicke pilot he shot, but roughly 92% of pilots are not picked up.
The Young and the Restless spoilers noted that in an interview with Michael Fairman’s On-Air On Soaps, Y&R head scribe Chuck Pratt said, “Justin… is the future.” Obviously, Pratt is heavily invested in Hartley and would work around his shooting schedule to keep him on the soap.
The bottom line is that there’s nothing new here. Justin Hartley shot the pilot in late January to mid-February which Y&R fans already knew. The pilot hasn’t been picked up and even if it is, that doesn’t mean that Hartley would leave “The Young and The Restless”.
Chuck Pratt and TPTB at CBS clearly knew that Hartley would pursue outside work when they hired him and have been flexible with the actor – he’s clearly worth the effort.
