The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Sharon Case (Sharon) posted a flashback photo of herself via her Instagram account with Michael Muhney (Adam). The image shows the smiling couple in an off-set shot during their halcyon Shadam days. The timing of Case’s post and connected comments she made naturally add soapy fuel to the fire about Muhney’s return to the show.
Case’s connected Instagram post comments say, “So many tweets and IG comments lately about #adamnewman#michaelmuhney#shadam Here is a fun flashback Shadam pic.”
Savvy Y&R fans who follow Case and Muhney’s various social media accounts know that the colleagues have remained close since he was shockingly let go by Y&R just prior to Christmas three years ago. The public relations disaster that followed Muhney’s sudden termination, at the height of his daytime popularity no less, spurned wild rumors among varied factions of the audience, among others.
Some viewers were deeply disappointed that then-executive producer Jill Farren Phelps wasn’t more transparent about her decision. A segment of that fan base wasn’t shy about publicly attacking her for the duration of her tenure that ended earlier this year.
Muhney offered scant comments himself for a long period of time, instead tweeting cryptic philosophical statements about life in early 2014. His lack of detailed information about the topic created a gap which was filled by an element of his fan base that assumed he’d been wronged. The gathered gang then split its focus between Phelps and Hunter King (Summer) as the source of Muhney’s troubles. No actual proof was provided, which is often the case with vengeful (digital) mobs.
Time appears to have proven that Phelps made a business decision based upon cast chemistry, Muhney’s positive mixture with Case not withstanding. And, unless new information is ever revealed, King doesn’t seem to have made a sexual harassment claim. In measured retrospect, Muhney also appears guilty of nothing more than being too Type-A in the workplace.
Clearly all of the daytime world, not just Y&R’s top-ranked audience, would push the ratings to January 2014 heights (at least) if Muhney is ever recast. Now that a completely new regime is guiding the ship in the waters near to Genoa City, the potential for a major Adam recast reveal is in the offing. Yes, Justin Hartley delivered a consistently strong performance from 2014-2016. But he’s gone now and Muhney’s electric personality can always be lured back by the right contract.
