The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Steve Burton’s (Dylan) character won’t be recast when he leaves the soap in December. That reality could play out in different ways.
One angle sees a distraught Dylan leaving Genoa City after he learns of Sharon’s (Sharon Case) extended baby betrayal. Another sees Patty (Stacy Haiduk) unexpectedly ending her nephew’s life with another murder.
Patty has murdered people in the past. Most recently, Dr. Sandra Anderson (Elizabeth Bogush) was killed when Patty plunged a letter opener into her back. No witnesses were present and she couldn’t speak on her own behalf after the incident occurred. But, unlike many other instances of violence by crazy Patty, here she was acting in self-defense.
After spending the last handful of months in a facility for the criminally insane, Patty decided to contact Sharon. Ms. Williams’ mind had cleared and she began to use the informational leverage she obtained through her unofficial Fairview investigation.
Sharon was obviously stunned to learn that the person who knows she was never pregnant with Sully is now motivated to use that knowledge for blackmail purposes.
Dylan is a sensitive man. His experience in the military altered his outlook on life and resulted in a post traumatic stress disorder diagnosis. After working through his unresolved feelings toward Avery (Jessica Collins) and connecting with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) temporarily, he thought he found love with Sharon. But, her lack of trust in him has doomed their marriage and perhaps his very life.
Those who previously blamed Nick (Joshua Morrow) for all of Sharon’s past problems have been confronted with an undeniable truth as a result of the Sully situation. No one can honestly claim that Dylan’s presence somehow caused Sharon to withhold the truth about Christian still being alive.
That moral crime is not only Sharon’s full responsibility, it underscores a pattern of self-serving lying. While Case’s character does have redeeming qualities, her wrongful decisions are not solely due to mental health issues. No, this person has used her free will on numerous occasions to suit her best interests while she was on her proper medication.
Sharon’s decision to pretend to accept Patty’s demand for freedom in exchange for remaining mum about Sully’s true paternity has created chaos. As Mariah (Camryn Grimes) recently suggested to her mom, Sharon should have told Dylan and Nick the truth about Sully and then informed Paul (Doug Davidson) what Patty was trying to do.
