The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Billy (Jason Thompson) may lock lips with Hilary (Mishael Morgan) next year. Philly is over and done, as viewers called for and now know. So Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) could care less what her former intense crush does. However, Devon (Bryton James) would be incensed if he learned that Hilary betrayed him. But would he leave the woman who appears to own his soul, or fight to keep her?
Incoming head writer Sally Sussman said in a recent interview that she’s interested in some surprising super couples. Clearly Bilary, or Hilly if one prefers, would be that. So, it’s time to explore two contenders who might seek this modern moniker.
Billy is a lout and sometimes a loser. But he’s also a man who’s loved by the ladies. Yes, he does care about Victoria (Amelia Heinle). Now that Mr. About has changed his mind and believes that Travis Crawford (Michael Roark) might not be a good guy, Villy could return for an encore.
Sussman likes super couples that “jump off the screen” and clearly Billy Miller and Heinle achieved that distinction when they were paired. Whether Thompson and Heinle could leap that high bar remains debatable.
David Tom didn’t mesh with Vickie in his adult Billy form. Burgess Jenkins had passable chemistry with Heinle, but their fire never touched the intense level that Miller’s link with Heinle consistently served.
Thompson is a solid actor who demonstrated an ability to connect with a scorching femme fatale. Tognoni also has strong acting chops. However, the pairing of Billy and Phyllis didn’t fit with Y&R’s history. So that super couple has rightfully been stopped.
Morgan’s character is feisty, seductive and ambitious. She shares an impulsive character trait with Billy that would surely be palpable if Bilary formed. However, Devon is richer than Billy. So, would she actually leave him?
As with Philly, a super couple doesn’t have to go public from the moment it forms. Viewers can see a scenario where these characters bond, but their involvement isn’t initially known to the outside world. Whether their romantic intertwining leads to a full-on relationship would depend upon a variety of factors.
Of course Michelle’s (Kelly Frye) arrival in Genoa City might eventually break up Trilly. But if she doesn’t reunite with Travis he’ll stay with Vickie, making Billy a prime love match for this new brunette beauty. Hilary does love Devon. And, Hevon reunited after a scandalous back-and-forth took place with Neil (Kristoff St. John).
So Hilary might only stray from her soul mate if she thinks Devon is looking in another direction, whether that’s true or not. In any event, matching Billy with Hilary would attract attention. From that point on, the scripts and both actor’s collaboration would determine super couple longevity.
