“The Young and the Restless” (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) will soon face more drama. Of course, that’s nothing new for Billy. He’s had to deal with plenty of heartbreak over the last few years. Sometimes Billy even brings it on himself.
Nevertheless, that just gives us the opportunity to see some fantastic acting. Let’s consider the last three actors to portray the role. Take a look at the options and vote in our poll for the best Billy Abbott.
First, there was Billy Miller. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that Miller has taken up residence in Port Charles as Jason Morgan on “General Hospital.” GH viewers love Miller over there, but many Y&R fans still miss him in Genoa City.
After Delia (Sophie Pollono) died, Miller did some of the finest work of his career. We watched Billy’s sadness and guilt turn into rage and bitterness. Miller put together a stellar Daytime Emmy reel from this storyline. It was certainly tough to accept the news that Miller was departing the show.
Next, there’s Burgess Jenkins. Y&R watchers were slow to warm up to someone new in Miller’s shoes, but Jenkins made the role his own. He made the necessary updates to take this character in a new direction. Billy had become hardened by his grief and Jenkins knew how to get point that across.
You could really feel Billy’s pain in the midst of all the outbursts. There were definitely memorable moments in Jenkins’ run. At Adam’s (Justin Hartley) trial, Jenkins had powerful scenes as Billy took the stand and finally began to inch toward forgiveness.
Now “Young and the Restless” viewers are enjoying Jason Thompson in the role. It was actually a quick adjustment. When Billy had an out-of-body experience, Thompson had a chance to interact with most of the influential people in his character’s life. He impressed us right out of the gate.
Thompson has an easy chemistry with both Amelia Heinle (Victoria) and Gina Tognoni (Phyllis). Either pairing would be a viable option. Thompson has a gentle sweetness about him and it’s always a pleasure to see him on screen. “The Young and the Restless” is lucky to have such a solid actor in the part.
