A-Rod on ABC News? Alex Rodriguez just landed a major deal with ABC News. Viewers could soon see the former Yankees player on morning and evening news. His deal includes appearing in segments across the country for Good Morning America and World News Tonight. Sometimes it pays to date Jennifer Lopez.
A network insider exclusively told Page Six that the 41-year-old athlete just inked a deal with ABC News about becoming an on-air sports contributor. He may even appear for other segments related to family and financial news for other shows on the network, including Nightline. That doesn’t mean that Alex Rodriguez will be replacing Michael Strahan or George Stephanopoulous anytime soon. ABC News has been talking to A-Rod about taking on a new role in the news division.
They want to increase his appearances on a variety of ABC News-related shows. Viewers are likely to see Alex Rodriguez on their TV sets at least “once a month,” according to the report. It could be more in the future if he comes across well on television. He will start out as an ABC News contributor and will make appearances on Nightline and World News Tonight with David Muir, which has dipped in the ratings. Maybe A-Rod is just the thing ABC News needs to compete with NBC’s Lester Holt.
Another source close to Alex Rodriguez claims that he’s very much into the idea. He wants to focus on sports and family-friendly programming. He wants to talk to parents about how much their kids should work out. On the flip side, he also has an interest in “business and personal-finance reports.” However, that might win over viewers since he was paid a staggering $317 million during his time with the Yankees.
A-Rod’s sports commentary may remain exclusive to FOX Sports. His work has already received critical acclaim due to his knowledge of sports and his on-camera appearance. That means he won’t be able to appear on ESPN. But, the insider claims that if there’s a World Series to discuss, he will appear on GMA to talk about the big game. A third insider claims that A-Rod has already become a “part of the ABC Family.”
He also been announced as a guest host on ABC’S Shark Tank and has co-hosted on The View. Meanwhile, Alex Rodriguez’s girlfriend Jennifer Lopez has two shows on rival NBC – her new summer show, World Of Dance and her cop drama, Shades Of Blue. After his various talks with ABC, he would like to appear on other ABC shows, including GMA and other projects he will bring to the table.
