American Idol is scrambling to find celebrity judges. So far, the reboot secured Katy Judge for a hefty $25 million. Ryan Seacrest also confirmed that he was returning as host. He’s only making a cool $10 million. American Idol may need to delay taping. The producers are unable to land any celebrity judges besides Katy Perry. If the filming is postponed, it could conflict with Katy Perry’s Witness World Tour, which could cause major chaos.
Rebooting American Idol may have been a bad idea. The show already begun its auditions even though it has no judges. American Idol hits its final tour bus audition stop on Thursday, Sept. 14. In the next few weeks, auditions with the actual judges are expected to film. American Idol may have to delay filming since it can’t find any other celebrity judges. Producers have only hired one celebrity judge and she already costed them a lot of money.
Katy Perry was the only star confirmed to sign on to the reality competition. The show heavily relies on having three to four judges. Katy Perry probably shouldn’t have bragged that she got paid $25 million. The ridiculous figure has reportedly made it impossible to find other celebrities to fill out the judges’ panel. There have also been talks about bringing back Ryan Seacrest as host. He has signed on for around $10 to $15 million, according to reports.
Producers have their eyes on country singer Luke Bryan, according to TMZ. He reportedly wants a bigger paycheck than Katy Perry. The show’s budget has already decreased thanks to Katy Perry. Other celebrities are looking for extra perks such as Walt Disney World theme park partnerships since Idol will air on ABC. Producers are “no closer to locking down stars,” according to the report. That means the show’s Season 16 premiere could be delayed.
If American Idol delays filming, it could conflict with Katy Perry’s Witness World Tour, which kicks off Sept. 19. Producers have begun planning tapings around her tour. Katy Perry will have to travel all over North America until February 2018. She then has a break in her tour, allowing for live American Idol tapings. She will then have to leave on her tour in May for her international tour stops.
