A big truck comes screeching to a halt when, he is yanked from the truck, he pleads with them to just take the truck and he won’t say a word. The masked man, tells him he knows he won’t as he shows him his license and says he knows who he is and where he lives. He breaks his leg and the crew takes off.

Sid Gormley (Robert Clohessy) brings out a 30-yr-old bottle of booze, Garret Moore (Gregory Jbara) asks him how he could afford it, and he talks about the old days, saying he knows a guy. Dt. Abigail Baker (Abigail Hawk) comes in, informing them that she got a call from her old Sgt who is now a Captain Bullman (Curt Bouril) at IAB, and he has asked her to come work with him. She wanted to talk to them first before she decides if she is taking the job. Sid says Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) isn’t going to take the news well; she admits that is why she is hesitating.

She promises not to tell Frank she talked to them about it, but both men say he will know whether she reveals that tidbit or not. She has been with Frank for 9 years and feels like a small fish in a big pond, even though he values her.

A young girl is able to break open a window and the grate, a man is attempting to help her while another man is trying to pull her back in, but Officers Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) arrive, she begs for them to hurry and save the others. They bust in the door, and find the wounded man on the ground, Eddie stands over him when Jamie finds at least two other female hostages. He calls in for help.

Detectives Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) and Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) question the trucker, who says he lost his license but Danny sees through it, knowing they have it and know where he lives and threatened him and that is why he won’t help. Parker Mack (Spencer House) asks Eddie how the girls are, saying he isn’t a hero; she says there is something special about him. Jamie returns and reveals that he was involved in grand larceny down in Pennsylvania and is forced to put him under arrest; Eddie disagrees, saying he is a hero as Jamie says he is a wanted felon.

Baez doesn’t blame their victim, saying if a pack of animals knew where she lived, she wouldn’t talk either. She says priority number one is protecting her family, when he objects and says that is exactly what these people are preying on; she reminds him that not everyone has the “balls” that he has. Danny thinks that maybe there is a dash cam on the truck.

Sid, Garrett, and Abigail are reviewing the day with Frank; but the minute she leaves the room he asks them if they notice anything about Abigail. Both deny it as he asks if there is anything they can give him a heads up about. Garrett gives in and tells him about the job opportunity and how torn up about it, Frank admits he understands her frustration, but is bothered at how Abigail doesn’t feel appreciated.

Eddie and Jamie bicker about Parker. Jamie sees it as black and white but she feels they should help him, reminding him what life would have been like for those three women if it wasn’t for him and that has to count for something. She hugs him as he says he isn’t making any promises. Danny and Baez arrive at the abandoned rig. Danny was right that the truck had a dashboard camera but is disappointed to see that it was smashed to bits.

IT gives Danny and Baez good news as she was able to salvage one frame off the chip, revealing at least a partial piece of a license plate, leading to three possible owners. One name pops off the page at Danny – a Nicky Farina (James Brandes), part of Victor Lugo’s (Nick Cordero) crew; the one who likes to call Danny “Defective.”

Jamie comes to see his sister, Erin (Bridget Moynahan), who heard of the Good Samaritan. Jamie says he is courageous but reveals the issue about the warrant for an out of State felony. She says if a cop calls her with a sob story, she would not even listen; Jamie suggests she make the call. She laughs and before she agrees, he rushes out of the office as she mutters that she hates her brothers.

Frank comes to see Captain Bullman, revealing that he knows about the job offer; but Frank is stunned to find out that Abby actually came to him, instead of the other way around. Frank gives her the best endorsement, congratulates him and excuses himself again. Victor is bragging to all his men about his brand new ride when Danny arrives, ordering all his men to step back. Victor continues to call him Defective and mocks him for being a cop and eating donuts.

Danny approaches the exotic car and tells the guys that Victor was stupid enough to purchase the vehicle only 3 days after hijacking an 18 wheeler. The price of the car is over 200 Gs and Danny jokes about how that leaves him with just about $100,000 for gas. When Victor says he almost made him flinch, Danny tells him that his cohort, Nicky Farina isn’t so hard to crack. Danny says he didn’t talk to Nicky but Nicky sure talked to him and shows Victor that Nicky is in the back seat of his car, but tells Victor to back up as that is his car.

Danny talks to Baez about making farina sign some paperwork as he walks Victor past; making it seem like he ratted him out. Baez says it feels wrong, but Danny reminds her they are not the God Squad, they are the cops. She agrees to it but doesn’t feel good about it, Danny promises to bring her to confession after that. Victor knocks on the window when he sees Nicky writing on the paper but Danny says he can’t see him; Victor tells Danny to give him a pen, saying he will do this! Before he can get him in a room, Herbert Talbott (Gary Lee Mahmoud) arrives and orders his client Victor to not say another word.

Frank talks to his father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) who agrees that he has the right to be miffed; but he can’t blame Abby for wanting a change. Frank insists that isn’t it, wondering why she wants to reach so far into the past compared to sitting to next to the PC every day. Henry tells Frank, he can’t bring up the fact that Bullman would hire her, solely because of her access to him, without deeply insulting her.

Erin comes to see Jamie and Eddie, saying the answer was no, mostly because the guy is up for re-election and letting Parker slide, wouldn’t be good for his campaign; making him look soft on crime. Jamie thanks her for trying as she tells him they will try to expedite him today. Eddie hands him the file, he hides it at another officer’s desk and both act like they have no idea who has it. Baez thinks Danny is mad at her but suddenly they are interrupted when Pink Doughnut Man (David Carl) arrives with a box of doughnuts, compliments of Victor Lugo.

Frank sits with Abby, who says she has so much respect for him. She tells him about the opportunity that has come up, saying Bullman has asked her to join his team. She denies that she sought the job out. She hopes he knows how much it meant learning from him. He says anyone would be lucky to have a smart and talented detective like her, but she is most needed at this office. He tells her he is denying her request for transfer and apologizes that she didn’t want to hear that. Clearly upset, she tells him she will be at her desk if he needs her and walks out.

Danny goes to see a trucker, Roberto Alonzo (Omar Leyva) reminding him if everyone took a stance and more people followed suit, the bad guys would lose. He says he has to go back to work. Baez tells Danny she isn’t happy but she understands Hector’s decision. Danny calls Victor, thanking him for the doughnuts and that he got a one-way ticket to Rikers Island as Alonzo picked his photo out of a lineup. Baez is furious feeling Danny just signed his death certificate.

A man in crutches is walking to his truck when Victor puts on a ski mask and sneaks up behind him among the parked rigs with a pipe wrench in his hands. Just as he is about to hit him, Danny turns around and pulls his gun on him, arresting him, saying his plan was a little “defective!” Baez laughs.

Eddie reveals to Jamie that she had to turn over Parker’s file but Jamie says everything will be fine. He is very calm as Erin comes to see them, asking him if he is going to tell her. Eddie wants to know what is going on; Erin says he is a terrible person but a pretty good person. She explains that she got a call from Buck’s County DA and it turns out that he had a change of heart and dropped all charges against Parker because all 3 women that Parker saved, decided to reverse their decision to speak to the press and will give an exclusive to a local reporter in Pennsylvania. Eddie smiles as Erin says Parker is a local hero and the DA has no option but to vacate the warrant.

At family dinner, Henry wants to know when they got into the business of just letting criminals walk away; calling Erin his co-conspirator. Frank agrees with Henry, saying Jamie was a cop and Erin was a lawyer, neither is Judge and Jury. Danny smiles as he thoroughly enjoys the conversation.

Frank insists all they need to know is in the book, but Danny says not everything and insists they continue the conversation. Nicky says she is with her mom and Jamie, because unless the law is issued by robots and software it can’t all be black or white. Sean agrees. Frank and Henry say that is music to their ears, as even a good cop needs to put the book down and look at the heart of the matter. Danny is disappointed, feeling this was a con they cooked up. Henry says it was a teaching moment.

Baez thought Danny really let Victor get under his skin and was going to let Roberto be in harm’s way. Danny is enjoying driving Victor’s car. He suddenly sees the NYPD prison van, honks the horn and Victor see them, Danny waves at him and eats the doughnut Victor left him at work.

Abby joins Frank at a local bar, where they each have a Whiskey. She confronts him about pulling the rug out from under her. She calls him hard and petty and learned that he had seen Captain Pullman, who lied about what transpired and said she was the one who asked for the transfer. Abigail knows that Frank felt the job offer was a hook into One PP; she came to the same conclusion. She won’t thank him and they both agree the case is closed. He tells her “Nice Work, Detective!”
