Camilla Parker Bowles is finally opening up about her affair with Prince Charles. The affair happened when he was married to Princess Diana. Camilla Parker Bowles had to hide from the press as she was entangled in a love triangle with the royal couple. She knew that she could never become the next Princess Diana. She could never compare. But, she was deeply in love with Prince Charles at the height of his marriage.
The Duchess of Cornwall and the wife of Princes Charles spoke to the Daily Mail on Sunday’s You Magazine about their affair. She admitted that she felt like a prisoner in her own home sometimes. She would have to hide from the public backlash she received from being the other woman. Camilla Parker-Bowles is only known for breaking up Prince Charles and Diana. The Prince famously cheated on Princess Di, the people’s princess, with his former flame Camilla.
It was obvious that Princes Charles’ marriage to Diana was crumbling. Everyone in Britain knew about it. They were already talking about it. But the affair is really what got everyone talking. Camilla Parker-Bowles said that the media storm left her feeling like a prisoner in her own home. She was still married to Andrew Parker-Bowles when she was having an affair with Charles. She revealed that her life was “deeply unpleasant” back then.
Camilla said that she wouldn’t wish it on her “worse enemy.” Her candid interview with the Daily Mail could spark some trouble with the royal family. They were not happy when news broke that she was the one who broke up Prince Charles’ marriage with Diana. Plus, there have been numerous 20-year anniversary specials about Princess Diana to commemorate her tragic death. Now Camilla Parker Bowles is coming out with her side of the story. That just adds to the blow.
Prince Charles was never able to quit the love of his life. He publicly admitted that he would go back to Camilla while he was still married to Princess Diana, who he married in 1981. Charles and Diana were officially divorced in 1996 – and there was a collective sigh of relief. Princess Diana was free to do what she pleased. But, then she died in a car accident with her former lover Dodi Fayed at the age of 36 in 1997.
In 2005, the Prince finally married Camilla, the love of his life. In her new interview, Camilla Parker Bowles admits her marriage to Prince Charles was not smooth sailing. She said that her children avoided her because of the publicity that stemmed from her affair with Charles. The grandmother-of-five turns 70 in July and friends closest to her revealed that she never thinks of becoming the next Queen. That’s kind of hard to believe though. But, maybe she really loves Charles for who he is and not because he’s British royalty.
Camilla Parker Bowles tends to keep to herself. She attends 200 royal events a year. She admitted that the affair and the death of her 62-year-old brother Mark Shand from a fall in New York have only made her stronger. Nowadays she enjoys watching Nordic crime series The Killing and reading Robert Harris novels at her Wiltshire home.
