Reports indicate that Casey Affleck will not be directing his upcoming project, ‘Light of My Life.’ It was supposed to be Casey’s directorial comeback after his 2010 debut, ‘I’m Still Here.’ Sources indicate that Casey quit the film because he apparently wants a first-time filmmaker to take the film instead.
Yet, some insiders believe that might not be the case. The actor has been plagued with sexual harassment allegations for well over a year now. Two women, Amanda White and Magdalena Gorka, allege that Casey sexually harassed them during the filming of his mockumentary, ‘I’m Still Here,’ back in 2010. Both women allege that Casey supposedly called women ‘cows’ on set, repeatedly discussed his sexual encounters in front of them, and, at one point ordered a crew member to take his pants off despite their objections.
If that weren’t enough, Casey allegedly physically threatened Amanda White more than once. She alleges that he grabbed her several times and called her a number of profane names. Magdalena even called it the most traumatizing experience of her career and that she’s never seen such sexual harassment in her life. Reports say that Casey settled with Amanda and Magdalena out of court back in September of 2010.
Casey denied the allegations by telling Vanity Fair Magazine, “People say whatever they want. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how you respond. I guess people think if you’re well-known, it’s perfectly fine to say anything you want. I don’t know why that is. But it shouldn’t be, because everybody has families and lives.”
Casey is currently nominated for Best Actor for his role in the highly critically acclaimed film, ‘Manchester By The Sea.’ Many critics believe that Casey is a near lock-in for the award. Still, other sources say that Casey has a lot of explaining to do in the coming weeks, especially since he is no longer directing ‘Light of My Life.’
So does this mean that Casey’s career is over? No one knows for sure. Fans will just have to wait and see if Hollywood stands with him or against him at the Oscars next month.
