The Fyre Music Festival was supposed to be an epic music festival to rival Coachella and take place in Exuma, an island in the Bahamas. Organizers promised luxurious conditions and music from some of the coolest artists around. But it has been cancelled and given the unfortunate description, “the Hunger Games for rich people”.
The cost for tickets to the music festival ranged from $4,000-$12,000. Some even bought the VIP package for $250,000 (for 12 people). Guests arrived on the island looking forward to hearing music from acts such as Blink 182, Rae Sremmund, and Tyga. But instead headliner Blink 182 cancelled and when the guests arrived they found less than stellar and downright unsanitary conditions.
There was no running water or sewage. Some even had to deal with rat feces and only half of the guests were able to sleep in tents that they paid for. Billy McFarland, who co-founded the festival with rapper Ja Rule, said that a bad storm had blown through and ripped half of the tents apart right before guests started arriving.
They rushed to try to fix the problem, but were unable to make conditions much better. He also went on to say that they didn’t realize there wasn’t a good way to transport guests on or off the island in an organized, timely manner. Worse, the concert goers had to deal with feral dogs in the area.
Food, or lack thereof, was also an issue. Some hungry guests posted and complained on their social media about what they were fed. Supposedly meals (only for those who paid extra money for ‘catering’) consisted of two slices of bread, with a cheese slice, small portion of lettuce, with a tomato on top. Needless to say, no one was happy about any part of their Fyre Music Festival experience.
Now organizers aren’t the only ones being roasted for the poorly planned festival. Some of today’s biggest supermodels were paid to encourage their fans to shill out top dollar to attend the festival. Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, Bella Hadid, as well as actress Emily Ratajkowski have angered their social media followers and are paying the price.
Many are saying shame on the models for promoting such a mess. This has to be especially damaging to Kendall Jenner. It was just earlier this month that she was raked over the coals for her disastrous Pepsi commercial.
