Chicago Justice begins tonight with a bunch of guys celebrating a bachelor party. The following morning the bartending father, arrives to pick up his son, the groom-to-be, Trevor Nichols (Ryan McBride) to go hunting. He opens the front door and finds the house in disarray and his son Trevor dead.
Antonio Dawson (Jonn Seda) is quickly on scene, where the hunting buddies tell him Trevor’s father went home to tell his wife. Laura Nagel (Joelle Carter) is inside the house, checking the crime scene and finds a pair of red lace panties in Trevor’s pocket.
Peter Stone (Phillip Winchester) goes to visit the Nichols, where he learns he has been out of the Navy for 18 months after serving for 10 years. Trevor was a personal trainer at one of the gyms and his wedding was to be that following Saturday; but now they are planning a funeral.
Antonio and Laura meet with Trevor’s fiance, who says they were not having any issues, they were both excited about the wedding; but when Laura shows her the panties, she says they are not hers and must have been there before she got together with him.
His friends say the bar they went to later, Trevor sees a woman he is interested in, and the feelings are mutual. Her name was Angela (Meg McCrossen), and when they admit they left Trevor behind to be with Angela when the bar closed; Laura sarcastically tells them they were some great wing man.
Antonio shows his badge and they bring Angela aside. She is very touchy and defensive at first, then says his buddies gave her some money to slip her thong into his pants. She says they did hang out after work, but went to some fight club, where he fought and won.
Angela said after that, she wanted to hook up with him. They made out for a bit, but he got worried about screwing things up with his fiance and she dropped him off at home; uBer driver confirms all of Angela’s story.
ME Joy Fletcher (Lindsey Pearlman) confirms that someone beat him really good, and there was a stab wound but the one strange thing was he has a thumb drive inside his stomach.
Anna Valdez (Monica Barbaro), Antonio, Laura and Stone learn the drive is in perfect condition. He says he can read the drive but it is encrypted that is NSA level. Stone says they will find out what he was hiding the old fashioned way. As they are searching his house, the mail arrives; they discover that Trevor had a lot of money but not on his salary, same with the diamond ring on his fiance’s finger. They revisit the fiance, who shares that she used to date Mike Soto (Donny Boaz); one of Trevor’s friends.
She first said his dad gave him the money, but confesses that he was writing a book and he got some money up front. She says it was some sort of memoir, but she has to leave for Trevor’s service.
Mark Jefferies (Carl Weathers) attends the funeral while Laura learns that Trevor’s book was worth over $400,000; Antonio says he should write a book but wonders if the Navy signed off on it, Laura says apparently the lawyers did; but the publishers didn’t have any of the 3 chapters he had already written because he didn’t want anyone to steal his work.
They are able to see the video, where the Seal team shot a woman. As they are under fire, one of them tries to bring the woman but another forces him to leave her behind and to abort. Stone says this was something they were not supposed to see.
Anna shows a photo of Dr. Katherine Carter, who worked with Doctors Without Borders in the Ukraine. When things became bad they removed all their staff, but she remained to stay with her patients; a week later she was kidnapped; a Navy Seal team was sent in to rescue her.
Stone says this was all over the news a few years ago. Operation Omega, according to the Pentagon went awry and Dr. Carter and 2 of the Seals were killed by the rebels during the rescue attempt. Laura says on the video it was an American who shot her and left her there. Stone wants to know if Trevor was one of those Seals.
Stone and Anna come to see Mr Nichols, who had no idea Trevor was writing a book. They do get him to confirm Trevor was involved in Operation Omega, Mike was with him but Jake was their team leader. Mr. Nichols says Trevor went to Dr. Carter’s family to offer his condolences but they want to know what he said to them.
Dr. Carter’s parents and sister share the story they were told, as Stone and Anna look at each other. Her mother says she received a check of one-hundred-thousand dollars, but didn’t cash it because they didn’t know who it was from.
Anna believes Trevor was about to blow the lid off Operation Omega, and the money from the book he couldn’t take; both Jake and Mike were in Chicago the night Trevor was murdered; and as Navy Seals they wouldn’t want the truth to come out.
Antonio and Laura visit the Bed & Breakfast, Jake and Mike stayed at. The owner wanted to put them in a bigger two bed room but they insisted on having the fireplace. The ashes are from clothing, they realize Mike and Jake left just when they got there and if they’re lucky they can still catch them at the train.
Antonio chases them but when they get to the stairs, Laura pulls a gun on them and they are arrested for the murder of Trevor Nichols. Judge sets their bail at a million dollars each; he thanks them for their service but it’s still set at 1 million. Stone is then served with papers that he has classified material that belongs to them and they will see him in Federal court.
Anna, Stone and Jefferies are discussing how the DOJ found out they had the video; Anna says probably an employee from the tech company; Stone says it doesn’t matter, Jefferies says it matters to him. Stone thinks maybe it was the Navy who spun the story to the public and the DOJ has no idea what is on the video. Jefferies and Stone are on opposite sides on this case.
Judge Bishop (Daryl Edwards) at first says Stone should hand over the video and destroy all copies and keep his mouth shut until Stone tells him this pertains to a murder case. He again says there are much more important national concerns at stake than one local murder case.
Stone says the government shouldn’t deceive us about what happens in foreign lands. Transparency breeds trust in our institutions. DOJ tries to cut him off, but the Judge says he will let them know tomorrow.
Laura says even without the video, they could still go after Mike Soto since he was with Mia before Trevor was; and he could have had the thong slipped into his pocket to cause problems out of jealousy. Stone says its not the strongest hand, but he will play it if he has to.
In court the next morning, the DOJ’s application is denied, as he sees no danger to any other Seals for the video. Stone tells Jefferies the good news, that the video is in. Jefferies tells him he is not going to use it because he served in the military and he feels military secrets should remain secrets.
Jefferies reminds him that people fought and died for his freedom and he has no right to question what they did after they freed him. Jefferies gives him an ultimatum…. Do as he says or find a new job!
Stone meets with Mr. Nichols at the cemetery, he came to pay his respects but also tells him the Navy didn’t say the truth about Omega neither did Trevor. Stone says he was about to go public, go against his friends and possibly destroy careers.
When Stone tells him the evidence they have against Jake and Mike may not be used at trial which means they probably won’t be convicted. He says he understands; but Stone is confused because he never served in the military himself. Mr Nichols tells Stone he doesn’t want to know what he had to say about the secret.
Back in his office, Stone places the thumb drive in the envelope but suggests they use it against Mike Soto, that since he was present during the video they could use it against him. Anna knows Jefferies said he can’t use it, but Mike doesn’t.
They separate Mike and Jake; he shows Mike the video and offers him 15 years if he testifies against Jake, since he was the leader that night. On the stand, Mike admits Mia told him about the book and how they couldn’t let it go, and there was no other option if they couldn’t talk him out of it. Mike took that, by the code, as a last resort they had to kill him.
He explains what happened, about breaking in, but when Trevor said the book was the right thing to do. Trevor grabbed the knife, they disarmed him; Jake picked up the knife and gave him a kill strike to his side. They then made it look like a robbery, left Trevor on the floor and got out of there.
Jake’s attorney attempts to get Mike to admit that he killed Trevor out of jealousy but Mike says it was because of the Ukraine that he took the deal. Stone and Jefferies stare each other down and Stone asks him what he meant about the Ukraine.
He reveals Operation Omega and how wrong it went. The Seals were killed by enemy fire but Trevor was the one who killed the doctor. He said Trevor couldn’t live with the shame, it wasn’t about the money, it was to set the record straight and make peace with what he did.
The defendant, Jake is guilty of first degree murder. He is guilty for home invasion and he is found guilty on conspiracy to commit first degree murder.
Stone comes to see Jefferies in his office, saying he has his letter of resignation ready and Jefferies tells him to tear it up as he isn’t vindictive. He says congratulations on being right, but you’re still wrong.
Jefferies comes to Mr. Nichols bar, together they share a drink “to better days”. They talk about throwing their medals out and sending them back because of what they reminded them of. They agree that maybe its time to talk about what happened in ‘Nam.
THE END!
