Jenny Slate and Chris Evans were one of those odd couples that never quite felt like they made sense. However, isn’t that why everyone loved them? Barring the odd timing of their relationship announcement and the, ahem, questions about fidelity regarding Jenny’s divorce from her ex-husband, it was the weird couple that everyone was rooting for. Would Chris Evans finally settle down? Did the eternal playboy finally meet his match? Jenny Slate was a far cry from his ex-girlfriends – she was accomplished, she was critically acclaimed, and she had street cred – three things that none of Chris’ ex-girlfriends ever came close to.
I mean, Minka Kelly? Yeah, no. However, less than a year after they began dating (officially, anyway), Chris Evans and Jenny Slate broke up. And a few days later, there were reports that Jenny was emotional and teary at her stand-up routines, confirming that she was having a difficult time with this breakup. Her social media definitely attests to that – sad tweets and re-tweets are always a sure sign of a breakup or a relationship gone wrong.
On the other hand, Chris Evans is partying and having the time of his life. He was spotted getting drunk in a very college frat party-esque environment, and it doesn’t seem like he misses Jenny even an iota. Or maybe this is his way of dealing with the breakup, right? Girls pine and guys get drunk? Except the odd nature of their relationship definitely comes into play through the lens in which we view their breakup; if Chris Evans was Jenny Slate’s dream ‘7th grade boyfriend’ as she claimed, then she likely placed more value into this relationship than he did – value that may not have been returned.
At the end of the day, a mismatched relationship is a mismatched relationship – and while Jenny may have had the upper hand in talent and esteem, it does seem like she was more invested in this relationship than he was – and that the breakup means more to her than it does to him.
