Five contestants remain in the competition to become the Next Food Network Star. Amy knows that if she repeats the mistakes she made last week she will be gone.
The host of Ginormous Food, Josh Denny, joins Giada and Bobby to outline the next challenge. The contestants will be required to create a ginormous dish of common popular foods in just 30 minutes. Jason picks Stuffed French Toast, Rusty picks Cheeseburger, Matthew picks Grilled Cheese, Amy gets Pancakes and Cory picks Spaghetti & Meatballs.
The contestants will be using their normal kitchen to make their huge food items. This means they will have to come up with some kitchen hacks to make it work. Once their food is complete they will each make a one minute video sharing their kitchen hack with the audience. Brandi Milloy joins Giada and Bobby as a judge of the contestant’s creations. Amy presents first and does a great job.
Her food also tasted great. She did a much better job than last week. Cory is up next and is very worried that his giant meatballs aren’t cooked well enough. Cory struggles talking about his food. He stumbles over his words several times and finishes with 30 seconds left to speak. The flavor of his food is good but his meatball is tough.
Jason was not his usual self and really didn’t talk about what was in in his dish. However, it was delicious and the judges loved it. Matthew’s presentation was a lot of fun and his sandwich was also great. Rusty’s burger and presentation is good but his hack of using a large knife to cut the bread isn’t very helpful. The winner of this challenge is Amy. Her prize is private time with Bobby and Giada. They give her tips on how to improve her performance and she really appreciates their time.
Livestream co-cooking is the next challenge. Each contestant will live stream cooking a dish as viewers at home follow along and also cook the dish. Their directions and presentations have to be spot on. They will make a quick and easy 15 minutes weeknight evening meal from start to finish. Viewers will also be able to ask questions as the presentation goes on and must be answered live. This challenge will be very difficult as they must cook, answer questions and teach all at the same time.
Alex Guarnaschelli joins the judges and will be following the live stream. She will attempt to make the meal as it is being presented and her success will be the gauge used to determine if they do a good job. Rusty goes first and forgets to tell the audience what they are cooking. Alex thinks his dish is too complicated for a home cook. Rusty almost forgets an ingredient but saves it at the last minute.
Alex thought Rusty was bubble and fun but his food was not very flavorful. Cory presents next and the judges think he is too stiff. They comment that his presentation is painful. He does things in the kitchen but doesn’t tell the audience what he is doing. Alex has a hard time following him. Cory’s final dish is flavorful but his presentation bombed.
Amy is very friendly and does a good job answering questions but the judges are upset because she doesn’t wash her hands after handling raw chicken. She had the strongest presentation but the judges don’t taste her food because of the cross contamination.
She is worried she will be sent home. Jason starts off weak as he forgets to tell the audience how much of each ingredient to use but he quickly save it and also offers a great tip on how to cut the tomatoes. Everyone agrees he did a wonderful job. Both his presentation and his food were great.
Matthew is the last to present and his energy is good. He starts to move pretty fast for Alex and she feels exhausted. She thinks a home cook would have a hard time keeping up but she loved his enthusiasm. The dumpling tastes very good but the sauce is somewhat bitter. Jason, Rusty and Matthew are the top three this week and are safe. Cory and Amy are in the bottom and one of them will be going home. Cory struggled in his presentation and the judges have no idea how Amy’s food tasted. Cory is sent home.
