Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin has surprised fans with news that he has penned more tales set in his famous fictional medieval fantasy world. It’s not the follow-up to A Song of Ice and Fire fans have been longing for – for the six years – but a collection of fifteen short stories.
Titled Book of Swords, George RR Martin’s new tales will be released later this year, according to Amazon listing. Martin’s collaborated on his book of short stories based on the world of Game of Thrones with longtime editing partner Gardner Dozois. Out of the 15 short stories, the collection will feature just one of Martin’s tales.
Other authors featured in the anthology include Matthew Hughes, Ellen Kushner, Ken Liu, Danial Abraham, K.J. Parker, Scott Lynch, Robin Hobb, Garth Nix, C.J. Cherryh, Elizabeth Bear, Cecelia Holland and Peter S. Beagle.
As for the highly anticipated The Winds of Winter book, George RR Martin has released a few chapters on his blog for fans to read. Martin is aiming to release the book in its entirety later this year. But as always, the author isn’t too worried about deadlines. “I thought the same thing last year. But hey, I thought the same thing last year.”
Via its Amazon page, the Book of Swords is available to pre-order before it is released in October. In the meantime, Game of Thrones fans have been treated to the first footage of the HBO adaptation’s seventh season with returning characters Jon Snow, Sansa Stark and Arya Stark.
Yes, Arya Stark is slated to return. Game of Throne fans have speculated that the younger daughter of the Stark family may have met a sad fate. But it looks as though the actress who plays her, Maisie Williams, hasn’t finished filming just yet and will be featured in the seventh season. Game of Thrones Season 7 will reportedly be released this Summer 2017 ahead of George RR Martin’s new book in October 2017.
