General Hospital (GH) spoilers and The Young and The Restless (Y&R) spoilers say one rumor floating around the dark corners of soapdom on Facebook is bunk. There is a rumor gaining traction saying Bryan Craig (ex-Morgan Corinthos from GH) is hired at Y&R to play Jonathan “Jonah” Barritt, brother to Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes). This is not happening for many reasons.
First, Bryan Craig is trying to kick start a movie career and just went on a big audition at Paramount for a part in a basketball movie being produced by Mark Wahlberg – he even shared a pic of his studio lot pass for the meeting. Second, Bryan Craig is still interested in returning to General Hospital in the role of Morgan Corinthos, but only on a recurring basis around his other work.
Third, the character listed in this Facebook “spoiler” doesn’t seem to exist on the Y&R character canvas at all. The rumor says Bryan Craig is considering the role of Frank Barritt’s son Jonathan Barritt. If you don’t know Y&R history, Frank is the guy who pressured a teenage Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) into sex resulting in the birth of Cassie and Mariah Copeland (both Camryn Grimes).
Frank the rapist has been dead for a long time and there were no other children ever mentioned in The Young and The Restless history. To be fair, soaps do create characters from the past to flesh out the cast but Y&R doesn’t need any more young blood right now and Mariah certainly doesn’t need a brother – she’s got siblings, a billionaire love interest, and Genoa City is packed with newbies right now.
This seems to be just churning up fake rumors to get Bryan Craig fans worked up at the idea that he won’t ever come back to General Hospital and is jumping ship to another soap. The fact is, Bryan Craig walked out on a good soap deal before his contract was up and GH showrunners have made it clear they’d have him back in a heartbeat.
Plus, Bryan was fresh off an Emmy win for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama and he’s up for another Emmy for GH this year. General Hospital was giving Bryan top notch material to work with in Morgan Corinthos’ bipolar storyline, so why would he go to another soap if he did decide to return to daytime? And if Bryan was to hop to another soap, The Young and The Restless doesn’t make sense.
If anything, it would be far more likely that Ron Carlivati would lure Bryan Craig over to Days of Our Lives since he likes to bring actors he likes with him to his new projects. Either way, there is absolutely no truth to this rumor. In fact, the original Facebook post quoted in the first article has now been taken down and the one we show above is a copy of the original ridiculous rumor.
There is no Bryan Craig casting news about The Young and The Restless and Laura Wright confirmed on Friday’s Facebook Live chat with other GH Emmy nominees that for now, Morgan is dead and not coming back. Bryan is focused on movies and not looking back at soaps – at least for now.
