Ariana Grande worked hard to put her Donut Gate past behind her. But the singer still has a shady diva reputation behind the scenes. Fans couldn’t resist when they posted a clip of Victoria Justice and her Victorious castmates talking about Ariana Grande’s impressive vocals. Some have speculated whether there is still a feud between the two.
While Ariana Grande has powerful vocals, she is known for her diva reputation. The former child star was known for being rude to fans and is reported for being difficult to work with. Here are some of the things that Grande is known for doing behind the scenes.
Ariana Grande has been in her share of high-profile relationships. It seems like most of her relationships have overlapped with each other. She also has been dating her way up the Hollywood totem pole. When she first broke out on the scene, she was dating YouTuber Jai Brooks. In 2013, Brooks accused Grande of cheating on him with former Wanted singer Nathan Sykes.
Ariana openly dated Nathan until their duet “Almost Is Never Enough” flopped on the charts. She then went back to Jai, but they split shortly after in 2014. Not long after, she dated rapper Big Sean. Ariana and Big Sean’s relationship bloomed when they collaborated on the hit singles “Right There” and “Problem.” They allegedly hooked up when he was still engaged to Glee star Naya Rivera.
“We’d been fighting for five straight days while he was traveling, and then on the one day that he was back in L.A., he said he didn’t want to see me,” Rivera recalled in her memoir Sorry Not Sorry, according to Us Weekly. “I walk in [to Big Sean’s house], go downstairs, and guess what little girl is sitting cross-legged on the couch listening to music? … It rhymes with ‘Smariana Schmande.'”
Grande and Big Sean split in 2015 after their ski trip and when she started working on a new album. Then, in July 2015, after Donut Gate, Grande backed out of a performance at an MLB All-Star game, stating she was getting oral surgery. Demi Lovato replaced her.
She also backed out of a series of interviews and performances later that year. In November 2015, she was scheduled to perform on the U.K.’s Jonathan Ross Show. She never showed up. He had to break the news to the crowd, according to The Mirror.
“Ariana is in town. We were told she would be in the car at 6 p.m. to be here for 7 p.m., then it got to 7 p.m. and she was not in the car—7.30 p.m. and she is still not in the motherf***** car. So I don’t think we can hold out much hope. She was booked but the lazy little f***** has not come.”
There are also her alleged feuds with Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy and Selena Gomez. She also has made crazy demands from showing the “good side” of her face to picking up and carrying her around like a baby. In Cosmopolitan’s March 2017 issue, Grande addressed those diva rumors. She says the media has it all wrong and that she’s only judged because she’s a woman.
“A lot of times, women are labeled as a b**** or a diva for having a vision and being strong and using their voice, and it’s just not the case,” she said in her cover story. “You can be strong and be friendly. [We] don’t have to be just one thing.”
She also said that she doesn’t need a man to complete her, while her dating history begs to differ. It seems like Ariana can’t seem to live without a man and doesn’t care if she breaks someone’s heart in the moment.
While Grande didn’t directly address the allegations, she credited fellow pop star Madonna for allowing her to stay true to herself. Grande is also good friends with Nicki Minaj, another pop star who has a diva reputation. It looks like Grande likes the company of other divas. What are your thoughts, CDL readers?
