Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are laughing all the way to the bank these days. After getting panned for their latest film, ‘Fifty Shades Darker,’ there are new reports that indicate the movie is doing incredibly well at the box office, especially internationally.
According to Deadline, ‘Fifty Shades Darker,’ has so far managed to pull in $277 million dollars in ticket sales worldwide. It’s still holding on to the number one spot at the box office with $43.7 million dollars in sales during the February 17th weekend. The film is also doing better than 2015’s ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ did during its first-to-second outing. Many even believe that ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ might manage to pull in more money than the first film, as it has managed to dominate box offices worldwide.
Of course, many critics are surprised that ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ managed to exceed expectations. A lot of reviewers mocked and ridiculed the film and said that it was even more difficult to watch than ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ The film’s producers were even worried that Jamie and Dakota weren’t doing their part to promote the film.
Jamie even said in interviews that he’s nothing like Christian Grey and that the character simply doesn’t float his boat. What’s more, he even said last November that someone like Ian Somerhalder should take over his role.
If that weren’t enough, many critics believe that Jamie Dornan has been trying to distance himself from the franchise. Sure, his role as Christian Grey might have helped him become a household name, but he wants to do bigger and better projects. But now that ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ has managed to pull in a lot of money, Jamie isn’t complaining. Both he and Dakota Johnson know that the film has managed to change their lives forever.
Plus, they also have ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ to promote in 2018. And considering how well ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ managed to do, there’s a good chance that ‘Freed’ will exceed everyone’s expectations as well.
Jamie Dornan might not like his Christian Grey character, but he probably doesn’t mind cashing in his ‘Fifty Shades’ paychecks. Do you agree?
