Kate Middleton looked like she was enjoying all of the attention that she was getting at the BAFTA’s over the weekend. Many eyewitnesses even said that Kate easily stole the spotlight on the red carpet with a daring Alexander McQueen floor length gown. In fact, so many people were talking about Prince William and Kate Middleton at the show, that they overshadowed Hollywood A-list stars that were there, including Meryl Street, Emily Blunt and Amy Adams.
Of course, many royal observers know that Kate Middleton loves being in the spotlight. The Duchess has never said no to a red carpet appearance. Yet last month reports indicated that Kate was almost barred from the show. Many insiders knew that Kate would be the star of the night simply by showing up at the glitzy event.
Even though Prince William is President of BAFTA, he hasn’t been to an awards show in several years. He’s also been criticized for not showing up to any pre-BAFTA events or fundraisers for that matter. The last time Prince William and Kate Middleton showed any interest for the British film industry was when they toured the Harry Potter studios back in 2013. Since then William has mostly ignored his obligations as President of BAFTA.
Yet, William knew that there was no way that he could attend this year’s show without bringing Kate Middleton along. She would simply never forgive him for leaving her behind. William had no choice but to bring Kate to the show, whether the Hollywood stars in attendance liked it or not.
Many royal observers have noticed that Kate clearly loves being a celebrity rather than a royal. Yet fans can’t help but wonder why it’s taken the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this long to attend the annual ceremony. Could it be because many celebrities simply don’t want Kate there?
After all, many Hollywood stars know that awards season is their time to shine. Their careers depend on it. The last thing they want is to be ignored by the press simply because someone like Kate Middleton is stealing the spotlight from everyone. And that’s exactly what happened on Sunday night.
