Lorde has recently said that her friendship with Taylor Swift is like having an ‘autoimmune disease.’ The ‘Royals’ singer recently made her comments in an interview with The Guardian newspaper. She said that being friends with Taylor is oftentimes inconvenient because of her fame. That’s because there are certain places that Taylor can and can’t visit with her friends.
Lorde told the publication, “It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease. It’s an element of wanting to stick together. Because it can be so scary to do this. These friendships, they’re about having a hand put on your shoulder by someone who knows. They’re about hearing, ‘I’ve done it, too.’”
Of course, no friend wants to hear that their friendship is like an ‘autoimmune’ disease or any kind of disease for that matter. Lorde might have meant it as a compliment, but a lot of Taylor’s fans simply don’t see it that way. By comparing their friendship to a disease, Lorde hints that being friends with Taylor takes a lot of work and effort. And for Taylor Swift, that’s the last thing she wants to hear right now.
This past year it’s been one celebrity feud after another for her. And she hasn’t gotten much support from the people in her life that supposedly care about her, too. In fact, it’s been the opposite.
Plus, there’s also the fact that Taylor Swift hasn’t been seen with her “squad” of friends in a very long time. Taylor used to make red carpet appearances and share social media photos of her and her best girlfriends all the time.
But now it looks like her gals Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and even Selena Gomez have abandoned her. They don’t hang out and party like they used to. Either they want to distance themselves from Taylor and all of the negative headlines she’s been making because of her personal life or they simply don’t have the time to hang out with her. Whatever the case, there’s no denying that Taylor’s social life simply isn’t the same anymore.
So far Taylor Swift hasn’t said anything about Lorde’s comments. In the meantime, don’t forget to check back with CDL for all the latest news and updates on Taylor Swift right here.
