As Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry’s relationship heats up, several reports – including one from Closer Magazine – unequivocally state that Meghan is the reason that Prince Harry has stopped his playboy behavior, in addition to helping Harry open up about his past.
Harry’s recent interviews and statements on the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and his admittance of his mental health issues following the death have been making waves recently, and Closer claims that his willingness to be open is all down to Meghan’s influence.
Closer’s source explains, “Harry fell for Meghan partly because she’s so open, and has that American attitude of saying, ‘Let’s talk about our feelings.’ He comes from such a stiff-upper-lip culture, but Meghan helped him open up. Meghan encouraged Harry to see that, by speaking publicly about his difficult experience, he would really help others, and how being honest might even be a relief. No other woman has helped Harry so much emotionally.”
Meghan also has a long history in charity and activism, and likely has more experience with this field than all of Harry’s previous girlfriends, one of the things that also reportedly drew Harry to her. In that vein, it’s easy to see how Harry would lean on Meghan for advice, and how being in a relationship with her encouraged him to open up and talk about things like grief and mental illness.
The taboo around mental illness still remains very high, especially in the UK, and Prince Harry – and Prince William and Kate Middleton, for that matter – have been working hard to erase the negative stigma around the issue.
This report also confirms what we’ve known for a long time – Prince Harry is genuinely committed to Meghan Markle, in a way that he wasn’t to anybody else ever before. At this point, an engagement is not a question of ‘if’, but ‘when’ – and all signs point to sooner rather than later.
If Prince Harry’s finally found the person that has stopped him from getting drunk and parading around naked in Vegas hotel rooms – and generally being the epitome of ‘playboy’ – then everyone close to him has probably breathed a sigh of relief and are currently counting down the days until he’s married.
