Something happened. However, the team had been left out of the loop on this one because EAD Mosley cleared the room before taking a secured phone call and hadn’t been open with any of the details she learned. She just ordered Kensi to come to the control room and no one knew why or if it was important to what was going on though Kensi soon found herself under the microscope when an ex-boyfriend of hers decided to go rogue. The ex-boyfriend and two other Air Force personnel had assumed control over two nuclear sites and unfortunately had the means to launch nuclear codes if they so wished.
Though SecNav had specifically asked for Kensi because she knew one of the men that had butchered his way to the top and had hoped she would be part of cracking him before the situation could escalate. So Kensi’s role, in this case, had nothing to do with her skill set. They wanted to grill her about Air Force Captain Kevin Miller and her role was supposed to be no bigger than that, but Kensi couldn’t just be the ex-girlfriend. She had dated Miller for about three months when they were both stationed in Japan and there had been nothing about his beliefs that made her suspect he harbored treasonous thought or that he believed in the Patton Project.
The Patton Project was this government within a government thing. But the people that were supposedly in had also believed in an all-out war in which they committed genocide and wiped out all those that followed the Muslim faith because the war was a war to them. There wasn’t a difference between merely going after those that were danger compared to noncombatants or even children for that matter. So the people that believed in the Patton Project were dangerous and the government couldn’t rely on only Kensi to get them through this. They had also grabbed Miller’s sister and they finally brought in NCIS when they couldn’t trust anyone in the Air Force.
It was the Air Force personnel that had gone rogue and so the first thing that NCIS looked into was what all three had in common. Like whether or not they had hung out with the same people or liked the same clubs. Yet, they found out that all three had been taught by the same professor. Professor Ted Holmes seemed to the be the only connection and so NCIS went to go talk to him however the good professor tried to make a run for it and the guys had had to run after him. So they knew that when they caught him that he was somehow involved in what was going on. And so the only problem had been the fact they hadn’t known what was going on.
NCIS had been filled with there being a crisis and about the three rogue soldiers. However, they hadn’t known what the soldiers were doing or why it was such a national security issue. So Callen had gotten Mosley to “hypothetically” tell him about the situation and so that’s how the team found out about the nuclear launch sites. There were three people sitting on numerous missiles that could destroy the world and they were firm believers in preemptive strikes yet getting Holmes to talk about it was difficult. The guys had told him about the situation “hypothetically” and he hadn’t seemed to care about what was going on.
If anything, Holmes had been smug. He had been proud of the three officers that had locked themselves in and had liked telling the team that there was nothing they could do about it. Yet, Holmes had gone a little too far when he suggested that there had to be a whole army out there helping just to get those three officers in such prime positions because that told NCIS that the military was compromised. So they talked to the other agencies and had tried to pull everyone that had ever attended one of Holmes’s classes. And in the meantime, they had tried to find out if anyone in Holmes’s organization was the designated handler.
There had to be a handler that oversaw the whole project and the team was trying to figure out who that was because they were the best chance of stopping a nuclear launch. But the team had taken a little too long with finding that handler and so the FBI on the ground had been forced to act. They had turned to Kensi. She had tried talking to Miller and that hadn’t worked though there were still other avenues. Kensi had after all gotten Miller’s sister to reach out to him and that had worked for a while before an accident had occurred. So the accident was what forced their hands. They had been trying to tunnel into the launch control center and had unfortunately made only a small hole.
The hole was essentially eighteen inches wide and Kensi was the one person that could both fit into such a tight space as well as fight her way into taking one of the three rogue officers. Meaning she was the perfect choice for the job. Though the job had carried some risks. The military couldn’t risk the bombs reaching their destinations and so they had put trucks on top of the missiles openings. That way they would blow up the missiles on the ground before they could even leave their tubes. So anyone that was close to the tubes was potential victims and so Kensi could die if they launched while she was tunneling in.
However, Kensi had sort of had a friend on the inside. She and Tiffany had gotten through to Miller and he had begun to feel remorse for what he was doing. So Miller had stalled on launching the missiles and that had given Kensi enough time to get in. She got in and threw a bomb into the small space, but that naturally created casualties. Kensi had taken out Miller as well as one of his partners. Which at the same time stopped any of the missiles from launching and disappointed Miller’s sister. Tiffany had hoped for there to be a way her brother could make it out of the situation alive and had begged Kensi not to hurt him.
So Kensi had felt guilty about what she had to do. Though there was no other way to stop the launch and Tiffany hadn’t been the only one she disappointed. Kensi had to make things better with Deeks as well because she told him about what she was going to do and he hadn’t wanted her to go through with it. Deeks had wanted Kensi to drive as far away from the launch site as she could because he had been frightened. He hadn’t wanted to lose her and being that close to the possibility had made him want to talk about where do they go from here.
The team had saved the day and they had even gotten to the handler, but the mission had taken a toll on everyone…
THE END!
