Normani Kordei is finally getting the attention she deserves on she’s finding it thanks to DWTS. The 20-year-old been topping the charts with her girl group Fifth Harmony. Normani Kordei auditioned for season of The X Factor originally as a solo singer. But instead of advancing as a solo act, Normani was placed in a group with four other girls – Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui. Camila left the group in December 2016 to pursue her solo music career.
Normani Kordei has been competing on Dancing With the Stars every week. She’s hoping that it will land her a solo career of her own. She’s said to be one of the ones to win, alongside Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and NFL star Rashad Jennings. Kordei has hinted that she wants to break out on her own. But, she has kept quiet on her solo music efforts. She has teased fans with her covers of Drake and Solange’s mashups.
In a new interview with Rolling Out Magazine, she was asked how her solo music will differ from that of her girl group. The “Work At Home” singer said that she’s “excited” to figure out her sound now that she knows herself more.
“It’s definitely more R&B and more soul because we’re generally pop [and] urban,” Kordei said. “But I definitely have more soul than I’ve been given the opportunity to showcase and offer. I kind of have to take pieces of myself to fit what it is that radio wants.”
Normani Kordei isn’t the only one’s pursuing a solo career. Ally Brooke and Lauren Jauregui have been seen working on their solo careers on their respective Instagram accounts. Harmonizers wondered why the girls are working on solo projects if they’re still a group. Kordei insists that the group is stronger now than they ever were. Fans will also get the sense of their newfound strength on their upcoming album.
She has become one of the hardest-working 20-year-olds in the business. She’s been on tour with Fifth Harmony. She has been working her butt off on Dancing With the Stars. She’s been working on both her solo projects and new music with her girl group. Though it’s sometimes frustrating, Normani says she’s able to stay “focused” and “centered.”
“I think that it’s just about balance, keeping myself centered, and being happy and healthy,” she said. “I also have an amazing team around me. It definitely helps when you have your mom on the road; I can’t imagine doing this without her. She keeps me grounded and she keeps me sane.”
Normani Kordei even looks like a pop star on the cover of Rolling Out Magazine. She’s photographed wearing a black crop top that features cut-outs and lace ties. She also rocks a wet hair look. Inside the magazine, her hair is styled sleek and straight as she poses in a black tank dress and sequined evening gown. She has proven time and time again that she’s a star.
