Queen Elizabeth might be the reason why Prince Harry hasn’t proposed to his girlfriend Meghan Markle yet. In fact, there’s a new report that says one of the reasons why the Queen has sidelined Prince Harry’s engagement plans is because of Meghan’s scandalous past. She is yet to decide whether or not Meghan can marry Harry, considering the fact that she is a divorcee.
Hollywood actress Meghan Markle divorced her ex-husband Trevor Engelson back in 2013. The couple broke up after reports indicated the ‘Suits’ star had an affair with Canadian ice hockey star Michael Del Zotto. That right there is enough for the Queen to give Meghan a side eye.
Plus, members of the royal family have been forbidden to marry divorcees in the past. Many royal observers remember how devastated Princess Margaret was after she fell in love with her father’s equerry, Group Captain Peter Townsend. Queen Elizabeth told her sister that there was no way she could marry Peter because of ‘the Church’s teaching that Christian marriage is indissoluble.’ Yet, Queen Elizabeth had a change of heart when her son Prince Charles wanted to marry his long time love, Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005. Camilla was a divorcee just like Charles.
With Meghan it’s a whole different story. She’s a Hollywood actress and a Roman Catholic. Even though the new succession laws no longer forbid royal family members from marrying Catholics, Queen Elizabeth is still concerned about Meghan’s past. Is Meghan willing to prove to the Queen that she’s willing to commit herself as a full-time member of the royal family? Not only will Meghan be expected to attend numerous public appearances and royal engagements, but she’ll also have to give up her Hollywood lifestyle. Being a member of the royal family will be like nothing she’s ever experienced before.
Right now reports indicate that Prince Harry might propose to Meghan Markle by the end of the summer. Then again, previous reports also said that he was planning to propose on Christmas Day, but that didn’t happen either.
