Princess Sofia of Sweden is hitting back at her critics. Sofia says that she’s gotten plenty of Internet hate from trolls who have left her nasty comments online. She says she’s been bullied for just about everything, including her marriage to Prince Carl Philip, her reality television show past, and her looks.
Sofia opened up about her struggle during a special podcast on behalf of her official foundation. She and her husband Prince Carl Philip are working to combat bullying in Sweden. According to People Magazine, Princess Sofia explained, “Early on I suffered enormous cyber abuse. It was a bit like walking into a wall. It hit me very hard. But the experience has helped me understand what young people are exposed to daily.”
Sofia also said that she was forced to shut down her official Facebook page and her other social media accounts because of all the negative comments she was getting from critics on a daily basis. Some of the comments were so nasty that she still thinks about them to this day. Many royal observers said she wasn’t fit to be a part of the Swedish royal family because of her scandalous past. Before marrying Prince Carl Philip, Sofia was a glamour model for a number of men’s magazines in Sweden. She was also one of the stars of Sweden’s hit reality show ‘Paradise Hotel’ in 2005.
Of course, many of Sofia’s fans say that critics are simply jealous of her beauty and also over the fact that she’s married to Carl Philip. Despite all of the bullying, many media outlets in both Sweden and elsewhere have called Carl Philip and Sofia the most stunning royal couple in the world today.
Back in August of last year, Sofia also wrote a special blog post about how wounds caused by bullying can cause a lifetime of pain. That’s why she’s also urging Sweden’s youth to make a change and hopefully stop Internet bullying. Knowing it won’t be easy, she’s doing whatever she can to make a difference. That’s why she’s encouraging young Internet users to stop and hopefully think about writing a positive comment before writing a negative one. In fact, she wants to change ‘net hate’ in Sweden to ‘net love.’
