August 31st of this year will mark the twentieth anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, and as yet another round of Diana-related tapes make their way to the public, public anger towards Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles has ratcheted up to all-time high.
New evidence that has recently come to light reveals a host of damaging information about the way Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles treated Princess Diana, including such memorable quotes as Prince Charles telling Princess Diana, “I refuse to be the only Prince of Wales never to have a mistress,”(seen in a Channel 4 documentary last week) as well as Camila’s hell-bent pursuit of a married man and the ruined marriage that came with that pursuit.
But alas, both Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles are now facing their reckoning with the British public, as a new poll from the Daily Express shows that only 20% of the public surveyed think that Camilla should be the queen after Queen Elizabeth steps down. Of course, despite report after report (all conveniently coming from Charles’ PR people) claiming that Camilla would only be known as the ‘Princess Consort’, The Daily Beast previously dropped a bombshell reveal that Prince Charles is ‘secretly planning to unilaterally declare Camilla ‘queen’ upon accession to the throne.’
The Sun also came out with a poll with very similar findings to the Express, with their poll reflecting only 27% of the public wanting Camilla Parker-Bowles as their new Queen. In fact, both polls also reflected that even the idea of a King Charles didn’t sit well with the British public, albeit better than a Queen Camilla Parker-Bowles did. It seems as though the public is truly fed up with the royals, and at this point, it’s only Queen Elizabeth who has any semblance of popularity with the world (and that too might be due to her age and her legacy more than anything else).
The public dislikes Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles for the way they treated Princess Diana, and they dislike Prince William and Kate Middleton for being lazy and work-shy. Really, the solution is figuring out a way for the crown to pass from Queen Elizabeth to Prince Harry somehow, though royalty has (unfortunately) never been determined by popular vote (hence, it being a monarchy vs. a democracy).
What do you guys think of Prince Charles’ and Camilla Parker-Bowles’ historically low poll numbers, especially knowing more about the way they went behind Princess Diana’s back?
