Ryan Seacrest is the diva of American Idol. He reportedly made $15 million when he was on the FOX series. Katy Perry was confirmed as one of the celebrity judges. So far, she’s been the only judge that’s been confirmed. ABC is still scrambling to find two or three other judges to fill in the remaining seats.
Katy Perry inked a $25 million deal to judge the contestants. The show wanted her back in 2010, but only for $20 million. She turned them down on their offer. They gave her an offer she couldn’t refuse and now Ryan Seacrest is fuming mad.
According to TMZ, Ryan Seacrest has his eye on American Idol. Though he’s Kelly Ripa’s new co-host, he still wants to host Idol. He’s ready to host the ABC reboot. TMZ previously broke that Idol is returning in March 2018. They spoke to Ryan Seacrest and his girlfriend Shayna in New York City earlier this month, and he seemed very interested in being involved with the show.
This new gig would require him to fly from NYC to L.A. twice a week. Ryan Seacrest seems like he would be up to the task. He has a million projects already. What’s one more? According to Page Six, Ryan Seacrest is not happy that Katy Perry is receiving a staggering $25 million as an Idol judge. She even bragged about it last week on 103.5 KTU. During the interview, Perry said she’s happy to be making more money than “pretty much any guy that’s been on the show.”
Ryan Seacrest got wind of Katy Perry’s news and he’s not happy. Sources told Page Six that ABC offered Seacrest over $10 million. Since he’s already got a new gig in New York on Live with Kelly & Ryan, he’s not happy with the offer. Though the sources won’t discuss “negotiations or salary,” it’s clear that he’s not happy with his offer. He’s hoping that Idol will change their mind and offer him more to host the show. Another network insider told Page Six that Katy Perry is not getting $25 million to judge.
It’s unclear who’s right or wrong at this point. TMZ was the one to report that Katy Perry was getting $25 million to judge on American Idol. This came from sources familiar with the negotiations behind the scenes. Multiple sources confirmed that ABC was so desperate to get a big-name on the show that they asked Katy Perry before the Upfronts earlier this month. Katy Perry had all the control, which is how she wound up with the $25 million offer.
