Taylor Swift could make an appearance in the upcoming movie X-Men: Dark Phoenix, according to her diehard fans on social media. The rumors started when it was confirmed that the upcoming movie, which hasn’t started filming yet, would feature the mutant, Dazzler, a mutant pop star, who can manipulate light.
So why are people speculating that Taylor Swift will be the one to take on the role? Well, the rumors started with a deleted scene of the last X-Men franchise film, X-Men: Apocalypse. In the scene the characters of Jean Grey and Scott Summers, portrayed by Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan respectively, come across Dazzler’s album at a record store. Sophie shared the deleted scene on her Instagram and made a reference to Taylor’s hit album “1989”.
The rumors died down, but started up again upon confirmation of the new film and the fact that the pop star does share a resemblance to the character. Although those connected to the film say there are no plans at the moment to cast the singer, it does sound like they aren’t completely against the idea of casting her in the film.
Though we don’t yet know the plot of the movie, we know the role will be small, most likely a cameo. The character of Dazzler isn’t a huge part of the comics, and declines to join the rest of the mutants, although she sometimes helps them out on occasion.
If the singer does decide to take on the role, it won’t be her first time starring on the screen. She made her acting debut on the television show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and later made her big screen debut in 2010’s Valentine’s Day, where she met and started an on-set romance with co-star Taylor Lautner. Since then, Taylor has also had small roles in such movies as The Giver, and provided her voice for the animated movie, The Lorax.
While fans of the pop star will be happy if these rumors turn out to be true, there is at least one person that might not be so thrilled to see her join the Marvel Cinematic Franchise. Her ex-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston is currently starring in Marvel’s Thor and The Avenger movies as villain Loki.
Even though the duo ended their relationship last summer, the actor seemingly pined for her months later during an interview while promoting his latest film, Kong: Skull Island, and has kept a low profile in the months since the breakup. If Taylor were to join the Marvel Franchise, it might make things awkward for the former couple.
