Jane is meditating as she sees scenes from her childhood; fighting, drugs, drinking, partying and sex. She counts…1..2…3. She remembers paper towels. The doorbell rings. It is her daughter and her ex-husband. Her ex wants to take their daughter the next day after school. She says no. He explains, he has been clean for months now. She shuts the door in his face. They head inside. Her daughter dances while she reads. The nanny goes over the week’s schedule. She leaves. They get into bed and talk secrets under the covers. Jane tells her daughter she has a hard time relaxing her mind. Her daughter has a secret – she misses her so much when she is with daddy. Jane is sad after hearing this. She sings her daughter to sleep.
A young woman by the name of Aubrey meets 2 men in the park. She is trying to buy drugs. She test their stuff with her back to them. She spins back around with a gun. The director yells cut. He calls Jane. He needs her to rewrite some script pages. She just took sleeping pills. He tells her she will be even better. She heads off to her guest house office to work, leaving her daughter in bed. She has a baby monitor, listening to her. She falls asleep. A while later she wakes up. She starts writing again. She calls a friend to come over. It’s 11:30. He arrives on his bike. It is raining out. They talk storylines. He gives her a bag of cocaine. She uses and then begins to type rapidly.
She heads back to the house. It is still dark out. She peers in. All the doors are locked. She can’t get back in. She smashes a window. She rushes in, running. Her daughter is no longer in the bed.
She calls her sister Ali. She shows up. Ali calls the police against Jane’s objections. The authorities show up. They give her a rundown of what they plan to do. They call her ex. They leave a message. A detective heads over to his house. Jane looks for her sneakers. The detective questions her some more. She heads to work. Her ex has done this before and it cost her production money.
