The defense of the United States and its citizens relies increasingly on two groups – the intelligence analysts in Washington, who uncover and interpret threats, and the Special Forces operators tasked with eliminating them.
But on the day Dr. Dr. Kimberly Wells was kidnapped, the two teams were forced to come together in order to figure out how they could safely bring the doctor home. The doctor had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Syria when her driver was substituted at the last minute and she was given a stranger who later betrayed her. That stranger led her right into a trap where she found herself surrounded by terrorists and couldn’t escape. So Wells was kidnapped not far from Damascus and intelligence were hoping she would be ransomed.
If she were ransomed then their ground support would be able to trace the signal and find Wells. However, the people that had taken her hadn’t wanted a ransom. Intelligence later found out the group had taken the doctor out of retaliation because the Americans had recently killed their leader. So that lowered Wells’s chances of survival. She had been taken because the terrorist had wanted to send a message and therefore Intelligence theorized she would be killed in the next seventy-two hours. Even if that didn’t give Captain Dalton or his unit much time.
The Special Forces unit had been in turkey when they got the call and so they were able to quickly get to Damascus however the city wasn’t small and finding Wells would be like tracking a needle in the haystack. Yet, fortune was on their side. They had been checking out the marketplace to see what they could find when they came across the terrorists’ second-in-command. So originally, they were just going to follow their new target, but then Abu Al-Akmuti nearly caught them during their surveillance and so the captain gave the orders to take him.
The captain figured things would be easier if they hostage of their own though what they hadn’t counted on was Akmuti being stubborn. They had wanted to make him talk and nothing worked on him. He didn’t mind getting roughed up and he sure didn’t want to speak to the other “hostage”. But the captain had placed one of his own men in the room because he thought Akmuti would speak with a fellow Muslim. So the captain had heightened the danger that Akmuti was supposedly in and that finally pushed the other man into speaking with Amir.
Amir had been deep undercover in Isis for three years and he therefore had the experience to crack Akmuti. Though Akmuti was a little more concerned about getting away than he was about sharing information. So Amir “broke” Akmuti out and he was driving to wherever Akmuti wanted to go yet Akmuti was leading him right into the group’s compound and Intelligence had warned the captain that those trips were usually one-way. And so the unit’s sniper, Jaz, took the shot and got rid of Akmuti.
Jaz had worked hard for her spot on the team and as the only woman she knew she couldn’t afford to miss. However, the captain had talked to Jaz and he said he knew how much harder it was for her than it was for someone like him. So Captain Dalton did his best to be there for his team, but he never took his eyes off the mission. They had Akmuti to thank for getting them to the compound and so they were in the middle of strategizing when something took them by surprise. The compound had suddenly opened it gates and a convoy left with the doctor.
Noe everyone had still been under the assumption that Wells was going to be executed however that didn’t make much sense when the convoy took her to a hospital. The hospital was heavily guarded and surveillance showed that Wells wasn’t the only woman there. Amara Baghdadi had also been at the hospital and so Intelligence put everything together when they saw Amara. Amara was allegedly the window of the terrorist they thought they killed and, so once they saw her, they knew that her husband was still alive.
The terrorist Baghdadi had been hit during a drone strike. Yet, he must have somehow survived it and so that’s why they took Wells. Wells was a surgeon and the group had been hoping she would fix their leader. So while that didn’t change things for Captain Dalton, it did for Intelligence. The Deputy Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Patricia Campbell, had to report the situation to her superiors and word from up top had just been about Baghdadi. They wanted to take out the terrorist seeing as they had been given a second chance and they didn’t care about Wells.
Wells was practically written off. They felt bad about what was happening to her because they all knew she would be killed the moment the group didn’t need her anymore. Though Washington’s focus was on Baghdadi. They wanted to try and hit him again. So they didn’t care if Wells would get trapped in the blast, but as it turns out, Special Forces didn’t want to go down that route. They still believe they could get to Wells and so they put a plan in action. They made sure the captain had gotten caught trying to sneak into the hospital and so he was brought to Amara’s attention.
Amara was running things with her husband being laid low and so she wanted to see the American. But the captain had purposely gotten caught because he wanted to take attention away from the rest of his team that were moving in and he had also wanted to plant a device on Amara. He knocked her out and his people moved into place to grab the doctor. So they managed to get Wells out of there meanwhile Amara and her husband had later been taken out by the save device that the captain had planted. And so the captain wrote the mission off as they had to save the doctor in order to get close enough to Baghdadi.
However, their plan came at a cost. The Special Forces Unit had gotten Dr. Wells safely back to the sates and they had traveled on to Turkey. So the unit were all playing around on the beach and enjoying a rare day off when Intelligence picked something up. The analysts had seen a car heading towards the beach and they had tried to get in touch with Captain Dalton, but he had been too far away from his phone by time they all saw a truck heading their way and so the captain had tried to clear the beach. He told everyone to get the kids out of there and therefore they were all running for their lives when the truck exploded on the beach.
Whether or not that explosion had any casualties is currently unknown.
